Life After Twilight

November 16, 2008 By Dusty Rogers 18 Comments

I’ve finished reading the Twilight series books and all I can say is: WOW. I cannot believe how much I loved them! As I wrote in previous posts–vampire love stories (let alone teenage vampire love stories) are not typically my type. At all. But once I started, I devoted nearly every ounce of free time I had–not to mention time I didn’t have (who needs sleep?)–to reading these books. I just finished Breaking Dawn–the last book in the series–and I begrudgingly realize it’s time to take an honest look at what happens to my life when I do nothing but read for 3 weeks.

Blogging: I’ve nose-dived from my average of 5 blog posts a week to 1. Definitely not my A game. Keeping up with other peoples’ blogs has been even more of an abysmal failure. I currently have 920 posts backed up in my Google Reader.

TV: I have 22 TV shows stored up in my TiVo that I haven’t watched yet. Three of which used to be Grey’s Anatomy (my favorite show) until G got so concerned I was slipping into a dark place that he started 2 episodes of Grey’s while I was laying on the couch reading, and–like a moth to a flame–I couldn’t resist focusing on the TV. G has since given up trying to stir me from my Twilight coma, so I still have last week’s episode–along with 21 other shows–to catch up on.

My Job: Still intact, amazingly enough. There were a few days there when I considered quitting my job so I could stay home and read all day, but I managed to make it through still employed.

Health & Fitness: I haven’t been to the gym in 2 weeks. However, the fact that preparing meals and eating also slid to the bottom of my priority list, I haven’t eaten in 2 weeks either, so it evens out.

Laundry: I’m not going to lie–it’s not pretty. Thank goodness I finished Breaking Dawn this morning so I can get some laundry done before the work week starts. If G had asked me tomorrow if brown dress pants, a grey and white striped shirt, and red socks matched, I would have answered yes–because those are the only clean clothes he has left.

Friends & Family: Those who I’ve actually seen (plans I committed to before starting Twilight, of course) aren’t sure they know me anymore. I can see how the vampire obsession could throw them off a bit…

Personal Hygiene: Sometimes I brushed my teeth.

Chase: This poor pooch was so neglected by my Twilight obsession that she started whining as soon as I cracked the book. She is lucky to have such an attentive dad, because I have failed miserably as a mother.

My Marriage: G is about 5 minutes away from joining Match.com.

In the end–the Twilight books were incredible. And although I’ve neglected nearly everything in my life while pouring over them, I’ve still gotta say it was worth it. I’m pretty sure my friends, family, Chase, and my house will forgive me. I’m not so sure about G yet, but I’ve got a back-up plan–I don’t think he’ll get too far on his dates with mismatched clothes.

Ooh! And I’ve still got the movie to look forward to–EEeee!!

Have you read Midnight Sun yet? I think you did? In any case, it’s short, only 200+ pages and its the best of all. By FAR.

Did you like Breaking Dawn? I didn’t. :sigh

And I’m glad you are finished…I miss you!

Allison–yep–read Midnight Sun and LOVED it! And you didn’t like Breaking Dawn?? You’ll have to email me and tell me why. I loved that one, too! Of the five books I think this was my order of favorites: 1, 5, 4, 3, 2. The whole series was SO GOOD! I think I’m going to re-read books 3 & 4 again. I’m not ready for it to be over, lol!

And I’ve missed you both, too! I’ll be catching up on your blogs soon! <3

I understand how you feel – when I read the books a couple months ago my husband thought I abandoned him. I felt like I barely saw him just because I was so engrossed in the books!

    Love the blog!

I’m nearing the end of Eclipse now – and I gotta say, I wish these vampires would get it on. Good luck to you with G – I think you can reel him back in – just don’t take your cues from Edward.

Because of you, I started reading Twilight. I wasn’t convinced at first. Until about page 4. Now I can’t stop. I haven’t been so psyched about a teenage love story since My So Called Life and Jordan Catalano.

I just started New Moon. My plan was to read all afternoon/night yesterday, but my husband had too much caffeine and was bored, so I agreed to watch some Entourage with him to give him something to do.

So far Eclipse is my least favorite as well. Not enough action.

I mean New Moon. I’m reading so fast I can’t even remember which book is which!

I fully intend on falling off the face of the earth when I finish the book I am reviewing and can get started on the next three Twilight books.

I just came across your blog accidently and was so happy to read about you and the Twilight series. My friend just gave me the books too and I have been in a “Twilight Coma” for the past couple if weeks. It’s nice to see others are just as obsessed with the books as I am (I wrote about them on my blog as well). I can’t wait to see the movie this weekend!

Isn’t it amazing how much an effect this series has on grown women? I know I was shocked to be pulled in as much as anyone. Im just sad there aren’t anymore to read.

PS: Her other book, The Host, is also good. Not Twilight good but still entertaining.

Hi – I’ve never commented but have been following your blog for a few months…I grew up in Madison and live in the twin cities – you’ve been a great help decorating our home :) Anyhoo… I was SO annoyed with you when you wrote you were obsessed with the Twilight seies and weren’t blogging. Sunday, I noticed Twilight was 20% off at Target so I broke down and bought it. It is now Tuesday afternoon and I’ve already finished New Moon. I’m beyond obsessed. And completely worthless. I’ve gotten no sleep and been feeding my dog rawhides to keep him from “bothering” me. Luckily, my husband was obsessed with Harry Potter earlier this year so he kind of understands. But he’s really dreading me dragging him to the movie this weekend!!

Courtney W–your comment made me lol! I appreciate your honesty! Sorry to leave you high and dry for a few weeks, but I think you’ll now agree w/me that it was due to a factor completely beyond my control. Twilight is addicting!! Glad to hear you’re enjoying it, and thanks for the comment!

I found my life slipping as I read them, too. I hope they do the book justice with the movie!

Gah, I swear. I am TRYING to resist these books until I am on winter break. I have finals and I can’t afford to lose any more sleep. Reviews like this make it hard to resist though!
