Spring Break 2009

I was reminded by a reader in a recent post that that I've yet to do a recap of our recent Florida getaway. I feel like such a slacker and will now attempt to make up for it. But I have to warn you--the amount of fermented beverages consumed on said vacation, coupled with the fact that it was nearly two months ago--means my recollection may be a little off. Here's what I can tell you:

Day 1
Three couples (Todd & Robyn, Andy & Deb, and G&D) left freezing cold Wisconsin for a little adult spring break in sunny and 70 degree Florida. G's parents have a condo on the beach in Ft. Meyers which is where we stayed.

Greg and I hadn’t been to Ft. Meyers since our honeymoon more than 5 years ago and when we picked up the rental car I couldn’t help but notice the different 5 years can make.

Then:

Now:

The first thing we did with our minivan was find the nearest liquor grocery store to purchase obscene amounts of Miller Lite some essentials.

I can’t remember what else we did this night other than drink Miller Lite and begin the girls’ domination at euchre (card game).

Day 2
On Day 2 we went to Sanibel Island for a nature walk:

And enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Island Cow restaurant (G, Me, Deb, Andy, Todd, and Robyn):

Back at the condo we continued to drink twice our body weights in Miller Lite--as the girls continued to beat the boys at euchre.

Day 3
On Day 3 the boys bonded over deep sea fishing and Miller Lite, while the girls bonded over new Coach handbags & wine.

G, Todd, and Andy:

See this guy filleting the fish we would later eat for dinner? Notice the cigarette hanging out of his mouth while doing it? Yeah. That was fun to see a week later when I downloaded these pictures.

And did I mention the girls continued their euchre winning streak on Day 3? Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Day 4
We spent this day relaxing at the beach (drinking pina coladas), followed by an afternoon at the pool (drinking beer), followed by the nicest dinner out we had that trip--which one of us (*cough*Deb*cough*) can’t remember. There may or may not have been some bets and dares peppered in there, too. And it's possible the guys won a game of euchre this night.

Oh! I’m pretty sure this was also the night G and Todd brought home Bud Light instead of Miller Lite, and were nearly castrated by Andy, Deb, and Robyn. (Their livers are Bud Light-free zones.)

Day 5
We did some sightseeing during the day, and later shocked the owner of a local sports bar with how many pitchers of Miller Lite we consumed while watching the Badger game. "We’re from Wisconsin." I explained after he served us a third round of pitchers with awe and admiration clearly showing on his face. Or maybe that was my blurred vision...

Afterwards, we returned to the condo and realized we had a lot of beer left in the fridge--and this was our last night of vacation. We decided whatever we couldn’t finish we’d just leave for the next condo guests.

By 9pm we were out of alcohol and wondering if it was too late to make a beer run.

And being the final night of the trip, the girls solidified their spot as the euchre champions of Spring Break 2009!

Day 6
We left sunny Florida, got off the plane in Milwaukee, WI and were greeted with this:

It was clear our spring break was over. Time for us to bundle up, sober up, and go back to acting like quasi-adults--until next time!

D, I love your spring break story! So much fun and sounds exactly like what the hubby and I would do with friends in Florida, except we might play Mad Libs and Rummy!

What a great idea--a getaway with your pals. Sounds like you had good times. Love the 5 year before and after shots.

I love this spring break story! And the funny part is definitely that the girls rocked it out with euchre!

Love Euchre...and it always baffles me that when you mention the game, nobody has heard of it. Looks like a great trip!

Obviously it was a wonderful trip. Very happy to hear that the girls dominated euchre!!! (I have a love for 6 handed.)

What is this card game you speak of?

Your Florida trip sounds LOVELY.

Your post came in my Google Sanibel Alerts, that's why I dropped by. :-)

You have a real talent for telling a story, and also for decorating! Your home is beautiful!

D, I love how you speak of much Miller Lite you and your hubs drink! It makes me feel way better about our beer drinking, except for we drink those amounts of beer in Bud Light! Gotta love some beer! Sounds like a great trip. We are leaving on a 5 day Cruise tomorrow and I will blog about it when we return!

It totally sucks returning from vacation. We went to San Diego last month and not only were THEY having record lows {while Kansas was actually HOT for once in March} but I came home with a f*&king pneumonia from Cali.

Vacations ROCK but not when they turn out like my last one!

@Taps--glad to hear you had a good trip! I'm not sure about Saturday, but I hope to see you Friday night!

@Michael--I always find that strange, too. Is it a regional thing?

@Melissa--euchre is a card game similar to Spades (from what I'm told--I've never played Spades). It's typically played 4-handed, but you can adjust it for 6-handed (which is what we do).

@Tootie--thanks for your comment! I'm always happy to have new readers!

@Amber--ooh, your cruise sounds like so much fun. Hope you have a wonderful time!

@Linds--Oh no! That's terrible! I think you need a vacation do-over ASAP!

Sounds like you guys had a blast. My uncle lives in Naples and we often head to Ft. Myers! :)
