1. Pedicures. My fabulous husband surprised me with a gift certificate for a pedicure earlier this month, which I thoroughly enjoyed cashing in. Pedicures are truly one of life’s greatest pleasures.
2. Outdoor dining. I love outdoor dining when the weather starts warming up, and this month I enjoyed my first outdoor dining experience of the year on Madison’s famous State Street. Great food, wonderful views, and certainly lots of interesting people-watching!
3. The month of May saw my first ever Chinese restaurant experience. Now don’t get me wrong–I’ve actually tried Chinese food before (my roommate in college came home with chicken fried rice one time and I had a bite)–but this was my first time being brave enough to go to a Chinese restaurant and order my very own entree. I went with the chicken fried rice (go with what you know, right?) and I really liked it! Granted I picked out all the carrots, green onions, and peas, so it was literally just chicken and rice, but that’s still a big step for this picky eater.

4. Summer reality TV–namely So You Think You Can Dance and The Bachelorette. I just love these guilty pleasures!

5. Reading. To prove my time is not completely consumed my reality TV, I’ve also been doing a lot of reading this month. I’m currently engrossed in Change of Heart, by Jodi Picoult. It’s about a convicted murderer on death row whose dying request is to donate his heart to the sister of his victim who needs a transplant. Like all of Picoult’s books, it’s so hard to put down!

LOVE LOVE LOVE SYTYCD! It helps get me through summer rerun season.
You’ll love Jodi Picoult. Actually her newest one, Handle With Care, is even better than Change of Heart. She’s one of my favorite authors!
Pedicures…love them! One of the best things about summer:)
1. YES!!
2. YES, YES!!!! (I realize this is starting to sound dirty.)
3. Um…REALLY? Chinese delivery is my weakness.
4. My life is now complete that SYTYCD is back. (Did you know they are doing a fall season too?)
5. Reading…ahhh, I need more hours in the day.
Um, are you for real about chinese food? Wow. No wonder you look better in skinny jeans than I do. I can’t say no to Sesame Chicken.
Love Jodi Picoult books and can’t put them down, but am often disappointed by her super twisty endings. Is this one like that?
And pedicures – is there anything better? Ahhh. But have you seen fish pedicures? Ugh.
That’s enough out of me.
I admit I’m shocked about the Chinese food thing. Although I’m always a little frightened of mystery meat.
And since I can’t fairly imply that you’re weird for not eating Chinese food without divulging my own weirdness, my weird thing is this: I can’t stand having my cuticles pushed back during manicures or pedicures. Cringe inducing.
@Anonymous–ooh, I’ll have to check out Handle with Care. Thanks for the recommendation!
@Melissa O–OMG, I had no idea there was going to be a fall season of SYTYCD! EEEEee!!! You just made my June, lol!
@Em–I keep hearing that sesame chicken is fabulous. I may need to try that next time. And yep, this JP book does have a bit of a twisty ending. But it’s still really good!
@Erin–I love having my cuticles pushed back! I do it myself almost daily. I’s semi-obsessed with it. (PS–please don’t stop reading my blog now!)
Sesame chicken is really good! I too recommend it. No peas in sight.
That Jodi P. really cranks ’em out, doesn’t she? I have only read My Sister’s Keeper. It practically turned its own pages.
jbhat
I am skittish about chinese food too…that’s why we only eat at the resturaunt with the giant glass window into the kitchen. That way we can make sure cat isn’t going into the general chows chicken
I just read Vanishing Acts by Jodi Picoult and it was pretty good. I’ll have to try Change Of Heart next!
Jodi Picoult’s ‘My Sister’s Keeper’ is one of my favorites of all time, and one of the most life-changing I’ve ever read. She’s incredible, and so is SYTYCD!!
I’ve read a ton of Jodi – like fabulous brain candy. Not good for the mind, but so yummy and I cant stop eating it! I started with The Pact and Keeping Faith – so addicting. I quite liked Perfect Match, but the last one I read was sort of a dud. Second Glance I think it was called. IMO, she tried a little too hard to weave the “serious” broader theme into a silly plot.
Ok, about the Chinese. Are you and Katie serious? Is the midwest truly that foreign food challenged?? I thought Chinese restaurants were in practically every American strip mall!
LOL @Anonymous–it’s true that Chinese food places are everywhere here. I’ve just never been in one until now. Blame it on my picky eating!
