I’m usually a pretty courteous driver, but I’ve noticed lately that my level of courteousness can be easily influenced by the bumper sticker on the vehicle in question.
Something like this, for example, would make me laugh and I’d gladly let you into my lane with the appropriate use of your turn signal.

But something like this, on the other hand, would have me hitting the gas and closing the gap between me and the car in the front of me.

There are just some things I don’t care to stare at while I’m trying to focus on my 10 and 2 hand postion, resisting the urge to text at stoplights, and deciding what’s for dinner. So yes, I’ll be damned if I let a bumper sticker like this one get in front of me. I just do not have the time to fill out a police report for “accidentally” rear-ending someone when my reality TV line-up starts at 7:00pm.
How about you? What would make you give up your spot in rush hour traffic, and what would have you hitting your horn?

It irks me to no end when a car waits until the last minute to get over in a construction zone. The lane closing signs are there for a reason! If someone is trying to sneak in, I will tailgate the car in front of me so they can’t get in front of me. I also get irritated when I let a car in and they don’t thank me.
I’m more apt to let a car in if they have an out of state license plate…but only if I’m on a local road.
I feel the same way! I normally let the elderly and people with bumper stickers about supporting the military (their family) and something that cracks me up in front of me.
But bumper stickers that are stupid, hurtful, or against my beliefs…no way in hell they are getting in front of me!
I totally agree with Lena! I have gotten in verbal fights with other drivers because of this! Another thing that determines my level of road rage is the music thats on the radio. If I’m jamming out to my favorite song I’m more likely to be nicer to other drivers!!
The car I will let in is the one with the sticker that says “The meaning of life is to live it” So true. The one I will NOT let is the one that says “If you are going to ride my a$$ atleast pull my hair” Now there is just no need for that on your car!!
I judge people based off of their bumper stickers, too. I had one that said “life is good” on my car and someone stole it! Either they really wanted it, or hated it.
i am TOTALLY the same way. and the turn signal is a MUST!
I totally agree! The other thing that irks me are those nasty balls hanging on the backs of trucks. I won’t let them in, signal or no signal!
I happen to live in MA, so I now have perpetual road rage…I honk and yell about everything, I can’t help it!
A good vanity plate will give me a good chuckle though, and maybe I’ll let you in. Chances are they speed up anyway and slide into the teensiest gap between cars.
The balls on the back of the truck (that Stephanie mentioned) are the WORST. Why put vulgar things on your car? What is the point? I don’t want to have to explain that crap to my future children!
I may also have a prejudice against presidential bumper stickers. Though, stickers belonging to losing candidates (especially several years later) always crack me up!
I agree with Lena and today I let someone in front of me because a truck was broken down in the left lane and the jerk didn’t acknowledge it – just acted as if he had the right to cut in. Don’t know why that bugs me…I’m usually a pretty friendly driver (unlike my husband). I also hate the balls on trucks. Ew! I did have a biker in front of me once that had me laughing because of his t-shirt. It read: “If you can read this, the B!tch fell off.” haha!
I saw one a few weeks ago that said, “If you are close enough to read this GET OFF MY ASS.” I felt it entirely appropriate.
@Lena–YES that is pretty much the ONLY thing that will set off road rage in me. I absolutely HATE that!!
@Anonymous–OMG, I don’t know what I’d do if I saw that second bumper sticker, lol! Ew!
@aura–I can’t believe someone stole your “life is good” bumper sticker. They’ve got some bad karma coming to them!
@Stephanie–I’m with you on the trailer hitch balls. I don’t get it. At all.
@Danielle–the political stickers of people who lost their race always crack me up too. Why don’t people remove them??
@Melissa–I can imagine it’s effective! I’m pretty sure reading that would get me to back off a foot or two.
Bwaahahaha! It’s like they wrote that first one for me!
But the 2nd one is offensive, I agree. And maybe a little funny =[
