All Things Loved In July

1. Non-alcoholic margaritas--mmmm! Since I'm currently knocked up and off the sauce, I decided I wanted a delicious non-alcoholic slushy drink to enjoy this summer. I poured through recipes of different concoctions I could try, but in the end I decided to keep it simple. I bought a bucket of margarita mix, added Diet Sprite instead of tequila, and threw it in the freezer overnight. Ooh, it is so good! Sure it's not the real thing, but all the lemon-limey flavors are so delicious, and it's strong enough that it's still a drink you have to take your time to enjoy--plus I just love the fact that it's slushy. It's (almost) all the perfect combinations for summer!

2. Earlier this month we had some friends over for our third annual 4th of July party, which was so much fun! We spent the evening eating, drinking, and playing yard games, and when the sun went down we enjoyed an excellent view of the city fireworks from our backyard and deck. I also set up a little s'mores bar near our outdoor firepit for the second year in a row which was a big hit! This year's s'mores bar featured honey graham crackers, chocolate graham crackers, Hershey's milk chocolate, Hershey's dark chocolate, Reese's peanut butter cups, and of course marshmallows--so yummy!

And for the second year in a row, my friend Jill brought over some patriotic desserts! My favorite were her star-shaped red, white, and blue rice krispie treats. See the ones at the top that say G&D? So cute! (I ate the G.)

She also made this red, white, and blue..truffle? Trifle? We weren't sure which dessert term was correct, so we just called it both. The truffle trifle.

3. Catching a Brewers/Cubs game at Wrigley Field with our Cubs-loving friends Dan & Kelly, and their son Aidan. This was mine and G's first time at Wrigley Field, and although the Brewers lost we still had a great time!

4. Can you guess what my current craving is? I've never been a big cereal person before, but suddenly I can't get enough of it!

5. I've gone to quite a few movies over this past month. I keep telling myself it's because I want to get to the theatre while I still can before this baby comes, but the truth is I think it really might be so I can keep seeing the "New Moon" movie trailer on the big screen!

(For those of you who don't know, "New Moon" is the second book of the Twilight series...and Barack Obama is the current President of the United States, and Michael Jackson has recently passed away.)

Now I'm sure you all remember how much I hated the first Twilight movie, but I'm still SO EXCITED for the second one! The trailer alone gives me chills every time I watch it (and yes, there's an occasional tear here and there too--I'm pregnant dammit!). Come November 20th I'll once again be standing in line with all the other pre-teens waiting to get into the theatre. Ooh, maybe this time I can play the pregnancy card and line jump ahead of everyone? I CAN'T WAIT!

That's too funny that you are craving cereal! My only craving so far has been Fruit Loops..and Captain Crunch.
I told the Mister that if he touched my Captain Crunch he was dead.

We're having a big Twilight movie bash on the night of the moving opening. You should come. No matter that I'm hours away. We have a guest bedroom. =)

...jumping in line while wearing an "Edward's Vampire Love Child" t-shirt that points to your baby bump?

They've cornered the market on everything else- why not maternity wearables? ;)

Reese's cups with the smores?! Brilliant idea that I now have to steal :)
You've seen the New Moon trailer on the big screen? Before which movie?! I'm dying to see it in the theater!!!

Hubby and I went to see The Ugly Truth last night and I was SO EXCITED when the New Moon Trailer came on!!!

Pam July 31, 2009 12:31 PM

I secretly cannot wait for New Moon either! It looks sooo much better than Twilight.

Funny about the cereal! That was my huge craving. Hubby had to make his own dinner, because I was having a big bowl of cereal. The weird thing was that I craved the kinds I never ate, even as a kid I liked Kicks & Cheerios. But once I was prego...hello Sugar Smacks, Corn Pops, Lucky Charms, etc., etc., etc. Each trip to the store was a new box!

It's trifle and it looks delicious!

Stacy July 31, 2009 1:11 PM

First of all I ate cereal morning, noon and night with my first pregnancy (Marcus, now almost 3). And oranges. Not so much during round two (Maren, just turned 1.) Maybe cereal is a baby boy thing?

Also, I have to know, in the smores picture, are those really cool marshmallow roasting sticks in that bucket? Or something you repurposed? I read the blog everyday and don't know if I missed that? Thanks!

I craved cereal with my son also!

Ooooh seeing movies when you're preggers is so fun (despite the frequent need to pee) because you will cry SO HARD at movies that aren't even sad. When I was pregnant, I bawled through the second half of Dan in Real Life. I'm talking tears. Streaming down my face.

have to agree with d. ramblings, reese's with s'mores sounds divine!

i have not read any of the twilight books, but i think an "edward's love child" tee would be perfect!

so going to make your mock-margaritas! breastfeeding prevents me from indulging in the real stuff too often! ;)

@So Not Martha--I can completely understand your sentiments! If G had eaten my Smart Start cereal I would have been heartbroken!

@Kim--Sounds like fun! I love that you already have this planned even though its months away, lol!

@Ang--OMG, that would be AWESOME! I so need to find a maternity T-shirt like that now, lol!

@D Ramblings--I think the first movie when I saw the New Moon trailer was at The Proposal. I've also seen it before The Ugly Truth and Transformers. Hope you catch it!

@Jen M--thanks for the clarification. I knew I could count on you to know! :D

@Stacy & Anonymous--Ooh, interesting theory about cereal craving = boy. I guess we'll have to see!

@Stacy--Yep, the sticks in the s'mores picture are long skewers for roasting marshmallows. I got them from amazon.com. The white container is actually a small trash basket that I normally use to store wrapping paper, but I thought it would temporarily work well for this. I just set a glass bowl in the bottom (so the container wouldn't get all sticky or possibly even melt from the hot skewer ends) and it held the skewers nicely while they were not in use.

@Erin--OMG, you're not kidding! I have a similar story which I'll be sharing in my next blog post. This crying is ridiculous!

@bklyn--Hope you like them!

Your drink looks fabulous! I might make one and i'm not even knocked up!

@Leigh--That's such a sweet compliemnt. Thank you!

@Rebecca--OMG, what a NEAT idea! I love that you had a s'mores station at your wedding---YUM!

I love the idea of a s'mores bar!! So cute!! I also did not like the first Twilight but for some odd reason I cannot wait for the second? Strange!! (I haven't read any of the books, so maybe I'm just anxiously awaiting to see what happens?!)
