Why Pregnant Women Shouldn't Grocery Shop

A few weeks ago I ran to the grocery store for a gallon of milk and came home with this*:

5 boxes of cinnamon-flavored cereal
2 boxes of brown sugar & cinnamon oatmeal bars
2 boxes of cinnamon swirl instant oatmeal
1 box of gingersnap cookies (which I have never before in my life purchased!)
2 boxes of granola bars
1 box of "sweet and salty" peanut bars
1 box of Chex Mix turtle candy bars (something else I've never purchased!)
2 containers of Moose Tracks ice cream
1 canister of jumbo cinnamon rolls

*Not pictured: The other canister of jumbo cinnamon rolls, which where unwrapped and tossed in the oven before I even got the front door closed.

...and 1 gallon of milk.

Wow, were they having a great sale or what? Dont worry I crave starchy foods and I am not preggos! Plus Life cereal is like comfort food in a box!

I had to give up grocery shopping before the end of my second trimester with my first. With the second I gave it up the first time I came home with a box of Peanut Butter Captain Crunch and milk (then finished half the box off before hubby came home).

I just gave him the list and hoped for the best.

You NEED to make this Pumpkin Pie Dip to go with your gingersnaps. AMAZING!

And then it stinks when you are not pregnant and not nursing and you can't have shopping trips like that because you actually have to start paying attention to what you eat! Enjoy.

I don't want to ruin it for you and be the bad bad bad woman here, but...did you know that in Europe the brand with the Quacker is known for being produced by genetically modified by-products?
Also any corn syrup/ corn by-products and soya products that are produced in the USA are also genetically modified.
I thought you should be warned, sorry!

On the contrary, I think you're an excellent grocery shopper.

at least you remembered the milk ;)

Haha I felt the exact same way the other night. I'm in my 10th week, and I went a bit nuts in Wal-Mart and grabbed four kinds of cereal, chocolate pudding, and Big Foot candy -- when I was not even intending to go in the grocery section!

I see the word fiber on some of those boxes! That means it's healthy :)

I <3ed pregnant grocery shopping! It's like you have ADD and suddenly everything sounds AMAZING! LOL DH only let me loose on my own every once in a while...it got ugly sometimes! =o)

At least you didn't forget the milk!

I'm sensing a cinnamon theme here...

Not fair! I'm 31 weeks along and have gestational diabetes and I can't eat any of that stuff! I hate going to the grocery store now because all I can buy is plain oatmeal and sugar free jello pudding cups! I've been craving chocolate cake this whole time and now I can't even have any! Eat one of those turtle candy bars for me!

Dang Dusty! You're gonna give birth to a cinnamon stick!

LOL - looks like the baby was craving cinnamon, right? My mouth is watering for some cinnamon rolls right now!

Centsational Girl November 6, 2009 3:42 PM

Your baby really likes cinnamon.
When I was preg, I couldn't go without peanut MnMs - I had to have an entire bag at 3 p.m or all bloody hell would break loose. And I don't even like peanuts. So I empathize with you. And I want one of those cinnamon rolls.

Thanks for your comments everyone! And yep, this was at the peak of my cinnamon craving--I couldn't get enough of it!

@Chelsea--Yep, they were having a big sale on Quaker cereal. I think it was 5/$10. I couldn't pass that up! I love Cinnamon Life and the Cinnamon Oatmeal Squares--yum!

@Ryan--Whoamigawd, that pumpkin recipe sounds AMAZING! I may need to go out and get myself another box of gingersnaps now!

@DreamCatcher--Thanks for the warning! I'm a little ashamed to admit I don't exactly know what that means, but I do know it doesn't sound good.

@blondie--I like the way you think, lol!

@Anonymous--Sorry to hear you have g.d. Hopefully you'll be able to eat your favorite treats again soon!

@MSNBarbie--Thanks for the recipe offer, but I think baking is too dangerous for me right now! ;) I may take you up on it after this baby comes, though!

@Melissa O--So glad you're enjoying them! I was worried they wouldn't make the trip too well.

@Mrs.Molly--Isn't that the best? I probably shouldn't tell you this, but I add caramel topping to it, too. Soooo good!

Janean November 7, 2009 8:47 PM

I'm laughing so hard!!

KellyH November 7, 2009 9:07 PM

This is great!!!
I'm impressed you remembered the milk too. I would have been too side tracked by the cinnamon rolls. Actually I'm kind of side tracked by them now...mmmmmmmmmm.....

Stacy November 8, 2009 7:09 PM

What is it that they say about little girls? Full of sugar and spice and everything nice? Well, at least we know baby G&D has the spice part down - it's all cinnamon!

Jamiegirl November 9, 2009 7:06 AM

You should own stock in Quaker!!

G+D November 10, 2009 7:34 PM

Awww, Stacy--I never thought about my cinnamon craving that way, but I love that! So cute!
