Time for a mid-year 2011 resolutions check-in! Although technically the year is already more than halfway over and this post should have been written six weeks ago…which leads me to my first resolution for 2011:
#1. Be on time.
As you can see, I haven’t exactly knocked this one out of the park. Although really I set this resolution with the goal of not being late to meetings and appointments, and I think I’m doing pretty well in those two categories. My solution has been to just schedule fewer meetings and appointments.
Problem solved. Next!
#2. Running 400 miles.
My year started off very slowly in this area, but I’ve since picked up the pace and am back to running my ass off. As of today I’ve logged 251 miles, which is slightly more than half my goal—and considering that slightly more than half of this year is over I like to think I’m on track. I signed up for a half-marathon (13.1 miles) which takes place in my town next weekend (eek!) so that’s certainly helped motivate me. Nearly all of my free time over the past 3 months has been committed to my training, and I am very hopeful that this half-marathon experience goes much better than my last one. With only 8 days until race day I am (mostly) pain-free and my running feels strong. I started out with the goal of just finishing the race this time, but my training has gone really well and I’ve since set an additional goal of finishing in 2 hours. I’m super excited, but also super nervous! As long as I can stay pain-free I shouldn’t have any problems getting another 149 miles in between now and the end of this year. So far so good!
#3. Finding more time for blogging.
Hahaha…yeah. See Goal #2 for the biggest reason why Goal #3 has not exactly gone as planned lately. Plus, apparently no matter how hard I look I can’t find more than 24 hours in my day. They’re probably in my bedroom somewhere underneath the mounds of laundry that I never put away. Or in my bathroom, which hasn’t been cleaned since the last time we had non-family visitors over (my new threshold for busting out the toilet brush). Bottom line: My free time is lost and I better find it soon before it dies of starvation or cuts off its own arm. Luckily I still have 4½ more months to keep looking.
That’s the status of my 2011 resolutions to date. How are yours coming along?
Love this. I too have a serious aversion to putting away my clean laundry. Drives my husband bonkers that I let clean folded laundry sit in baskets for weeks, and soon become piles of clothes that I’ve rifled through looking for my one tank top that fits or a clean bra to wear.
I’d love to train for a half… Can you share any useful links that you use?
I had to go back and look at my resolutions to see how I was doing. I couldn’t remember what I even posted!
I didn’t make any specific goals, but some significant ones were to blog for myself and keep track of my memories, and to become a healthier me. Both of which I’ve been doing wonderfully these last few months.
I recently started training for a half so I would love to know what you’re training looks like as well. I’m always curious how other people are training!
Totally off topic but I’ve been reading your blog for a while and I was wondering if you still had Chase? I don’t see her in any photos so I was just wondering. Feel free to tell me it’s none of my beeswax.
I’ve been wondering about Chase too.
@KR–YES! This is exactly my life. I am awful awful awful when it comes to putting my clothes away.
@ana & Ashley–I based my training off of Hal Higdon’s half marathon training programs (www.halhidgon.com). I made up my own schedule, but it was mostly a mix between the novice and the intermediate.
@Del & Angela–Sadly, Chase is no longer with us due to aggression toward Kate. The good news is we found her a wonderful home nearby with someone who doesn’t have children and she’s the happiest she’s been in quite a while.
Congrats on getting back on track with the running & going for the half! Can I ask how you find the time to train? I have a 1- and 2-year old and work full time. I know there are people that are much busier than I am, but when I get home from working, I cook dinner & then all I want to do is devote my time to playing with the kids. I leave the house at 7am and get home at 6pm. Just wondering how you make it work.
Hi Courtney, training was definitely a HUGE time commitment. Before I even started I had to make sure I had G’s support, because I knew he’d have to pick up a lot of slack I’d leave behind. On weekdays I stuck with my normal routine for most of the day, and then did my training after Kate went to bed at 7pm. I’d grab a bite to eat when Kate ate at 5:30pm and/or after my run. Then I’d shower and have a handful of minutes to do something else (usually prepare our food for the next day) before my bedtime. I did my long runs (the most time-consuming training day) on Saturday mornings. Overall, during this time G did nearly all the cleaning and laundry b/c I just didn’t have the time to help out. I wasn’t able to cook dinner every night, but when I did cook I was sure to make A LOT of food so we’d have leftovers to last us a couple of days. Hope that helps!
Thanks for sharing! That definitely helps to give me some ideas. I just read your post about finishing the half. Congrats to you!
