My “Tricky” Halloween Outfit

My “tricky” Halloween outfit!

Who doesn’t love a good trick on Halloween?  Well this outfit serves one up!

Can you tell what’s tricky about it before reading on?  (Extra candy to you this year if you can, because I don’t think even G would notice it!)

I recently got these cute black & white polka dot tights that I couldn’t wait to pair with this orange skirt, but I had the hardest time trying to decide on a top to wear with them!  A solid black top seemed too boring.  So did white.  What I wanted was a black top with some kind of pattern to make things a little more interesting – but I didn’t have one!  Just as I was about to cave and go with a solid black v-neck (yawn) I spotted kind of what I wanted in a different section of my closet…

My trick?

The top you see in the picture above is actually a dress!

The dress is several inches longer than the skirt so in order to make it work I folded it up and tucked it under the waistband of my skirt, which fortunately was wide enough to hold it securely.  No sewing, taping, or new clothes needed!

My Halloween “top” in its full length.

I usually pair this dress with boots (as seen in the picture above) but for the sake of showing you a proper before and after, here’s a picture of it with the polka dot tights and wedges:

. . .and after – folded up and tucked beneath my skirt!

Tricky, tricky!

Top: An H&M dress converted to a top
Skirt: JCrew
Polka-dot tights: Old Navy
Penny loafer wedges: Old Navy
Bat Trick-O-Treat Bag: Target (borrowed from Kate)

What kind of tricks do you have up your sleeve today?  Who’s dressing up for Halloween – either subtly or in full-blown costume – this year?

Skirt over a dress! I got it! :) A friend of mine used that trick to stay in her regular clothes longer while pregnant – so useful (and cute!)

I knew it was a dress from the first photo—maybe because you usually don’t tuck in your shirts? And because you said something was tricky–that was my hint! 😛

I 100% dropped the ball this year– no cute costume for me or the Bubs. No decorations, nothing. Can we blame the hurricane? I think so. Yes… month long hurricane preparations.. Yup.

    Cute tights!!

Love the outfit, but just had to mention: LOVE your hair. Straight shiny and red? This Frizzy, meh and brown haired girl is totes jell.

Thank you for your comments, everyone! I should’ve known you were clever enough to catch it!

@LizzieBeth: That damn hurricane can certainly be blamed IMO. I hope you guys still had a nice Halloween! Kate wasn’t much for wearing a costume again this year, but she did enjoy her first trick-or-treating!

    Thank you so much, Eileen!
