1. The perfect neutral nail polish:
Nail color: OPI’s Samoan Sand (photo credit: Melissa Oholendt). |
Why is it so damn hard to find the right shade of plain?! I’ve been on a ten year hunt to find the perfect buff-colored nail polish – something not too pink, or too beige, or too white, or too sheer, or too shimmery, or too dull – and I think I’ve finally found it! OPI’s Samoan Sand (which I first bought and wore for my photo shoot with Melissa Oholendt earlier this fall) has proven to be my go-to polish for go-with-anything pretty, neutral nails!
2. My first color run!
Me and Tiffany – before and after the Color Me Rad 5K! (We thought it only fitting after being “color bombed” to go to the pub and get the other kind of bombed – it’s all about balance.) |
Have you heard about these color runs? They’re so much fun! My friend Tiffany and I ran the Color Me Rad 5K for the first time last month and had a blast! You start the race all clean and boring-looking in your plain white shirt (see our before picture above – upper left corner), and then throughout the next 3.1 miles you get “color bombed” as you run, until soon you’re covered in fun, bright tie-dyed colors from head to toe! Once you cross the finish line there’s a color explosion finale, and if you weren’t already coughing purple or sneezing pink, you certainly will be after that! It’s the most fun I’ve ever had running a 5K, and I’ll definitely be doing it again next year!
3. Celebrating 9 years of marriage to my handsome husband!
G&D – 9 years and counting! |
I don’t know how this man puts up with me, but I’m ridiculously grateful that he does. I hope and pray that Kate is lucky enough to someday spend her life with someone as wonderful as her Daddy!
4. My (gulp) 15 year High School Reunion.
It’s interesting how these years tick away and yet I still look the same:
My former classmates and I got together a couple of weeks ago to celebrate growing up together, catching up on life over the past 15 years, tossing back some beers, and laughing over pictures in our old high school yearbook. Um…in case you hadn’t heard (or need the reminder) – Class of ’97 “rulz”!
5. Did someone say “Ho”?
While vacationing in Florida in September, my Ho’s friends and I checked out this great little blues bar where we had the pleasure of hearing Wes Heath and the Whiskey Band play. They were amazing! If I lived in the Destin, FL area I’d be hunting these guys (and gal) down every weekend – ooh, they’re so good! Unfortunately, it was our last night in Florida and we had early morning planes to catch so we couldn’t stay long. As we were settling up our tabs to leave they started playing a song that I had never heard. I was mesmerized by it! It was so simple and beautiful and I wanted to bottle it up and take it home with me. I thought it might be an original song of the band’s and hoped I’d hear it again someday. Well I nearly FELL OUT when I heard it on the radio a couple of weeks ago! The song is called “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers and I instantly downloaded it on my phone.
Don’t you love it when a beautiful memory comes back into your life like that? What were some of your things loved in October?
Yay for the class of ’97! Though I’m in denial that it’s been 1.5 decades since I’ve graduated- aren’t we still in our 20s?!
I too love when memories come back, often for me it’s through smells. I swear I’ve heard that song before- but not on the radio. Maybe it’s on a commercial/movie/tv trailer. Too bad I can’t smell it, then I would be able to remember and not have it driving me nuts.
Can’t wait for your November Loved List!
I just re-visited Wes too! Damn I loved that guy, I mean, that band! #swoon
Oooh, I love that nail polish color. And you’re totally right about “nude” shades being just well, off. Love that song, too! Thanks for the introduction; I’m always looking for new, good music to listen to.
October was a great month — celebrated my 6th wedding anniversary, and was introduced to Zija, a(AMAZING!!) product that has been a game changer for the health of my family.
My things loved in October include my 15 year class reunion…97, 97, 9, 9, 9, 9, 97!
and my 11 year wedding anniversary.
October is a pretty great month.
Oh I love that song!!!!!! I had just said to my husband, “I heard this awesome song driving home from work today & I can’t think of the name or the lyrics,,,,BUT, I love the melody and wanted to roll down the windows and play it loud, even in 45* weather. THEN a few minutes later I read your post & you read my mind!!! LOVE IT!!!
@Alison: I still *feel* like I’m in my 20s, that’s for sure! I swear everytime someone asks me my age my reflex response is to reply, “Twenty-three.” IDK why! I must’ve been asked my age a lot at that age, hahaha. I hope you smell that commercial you’re trying to remember soon, lol!
@Allison: WORD.
@Carla B: Happy anniversary to you!! I’ll have to check out Zinja – so happy to hear you’ve found something that’s keeping everyone healthy!
@Nikki: That cheer totally brings back some memories, lol! Happy anniversary to you!
@jerri: That’s awesome!!
Happy anniversary D!! Dang girl, where there like 15 kids in your class??
Class of 99 represent.

Ps… One of these days I going to do a color run. I need to start running first…
