I think it’s safe to say that Kate is now fully potty trained! She’s been diaper-free all day since she was 29 months old, but still wearing a diaper to bed at night to help her make it through the overnight. She has now gotten to the point, however, where she doesn’t want to go in her diaper anymore. If she feels the urge to go at night she’ll wake up and kind of whine and fuss until we hear her and bring her to use the potty. After a couple of nights of this we decided to let her go sans diaper at night, and she’s been doing great! No accidents and she quickly adjusted to making it all way through the night without needing to use the potty!
Kate’s love of letters and words continues, and she can now spell “stop” and “go.” She is also beginning to show more of an interest in her dolls and imaginative play and will “feed Baby” and give her drinks. It’s fun to see her take her play to a new level!
Other things Kate loves this month are helping me bake, the Marble Run game G picked up for her (lots of fun!), and turning the lights on and off. Considering Kate’s love of trains (and with Christmas around the corner) I bought her The Polar Express movie, and she’s hooked! She loves watching it and hearing “the train song” from the movie, which I downloaded so we can listen to it on our way to daycare. She gets so excited when she hears the train chugging and whistle in the beginning of the song!
And shoes. Have I mention she loves shoes? Much to my surprise, she’s quite the little expert at walking around in high heels (video below)!
Kate continues to be rather cautious by nature, but we’re seeing a slightly more adventurous side to her lately. One of the things G’s been trying to get Kate to do for over a year now is go down the big slide at the playground. Kate’s perfectly comfortable using the little slide, and every time G encourages her to try the big slide (which is every single time that he’s taken her to the playground over the past year…which is pretty much every single day) she negotiates that she will only go down it if she’s sitting on his lap or mine. Well imagine our surprise this month when G and I came home from work on a day that G’s parents were at our house watching Kate, and Grandpa Steve casually added to the day’s report, “Oh, and Kate went down the big slide at the playground.”
G and I were so surprised! “How’d you get her to do it? How did it happen?! Tell us everything!”
Turns out there wasn’t much to tell. They were just playing at the playground and Kate decided to go down the big slide on her own. Poor G – I wish he had been there to see it!
This month marked our second annual trip to Busy Barns Farm in Fort Atkinson, where Kate enjoyed petting lots of animals, feeding the goats, running through obstacle courses and corn mazes, a wagon ride through a pumpkin patch, and even a puppet show!
I think feeding the goats was by far the highlight of her month (video below)!
