When Hometalk and Michaels asked if I’d be one of 100 bloggers to join their nationwide “Pinterest Party” I was excited for the opportunity to get the creative juices coffee in my veins flowing! We were given a variety of Pinterest-inspired projects to put our own spin on, including clay pots, burlap canvases, birdcages, and chalkboards.
I’ve always wanted to give chalkboard banners, labels and lettering a try and this was the perfect chance! With our only parameter being that all of the materials needed to be purchased from Michaels, the possibilities for this project were endless! I love party planning and entertaining, and my mind quickly started moving in that direction. Here’s what I came up with!
This was my first time using a chalkboard pen and I was pleasantly surprised to find out you can easily wipe off any mistakes and re-do! Another pleasant surprise? Even though these chalkboard labels and pennants feel more like paper than traditional chalkboards, they’re wipeable and reusable! If I want to turn my “CHEERS” banner into something else I can just wipe it clean with a moist cloth and start over!
I couldn’t resist these speech bubble chalkboards mounted on clothespins – they’re so cute! As soon as I saw them I knew they’d be perfect clipped to the side of a bowl as a whimsical addition to a food display. I covered the front of the clothespin with washi tape for even more fun and color!
The mini chalkboard pennants I used for the “Mmmm” banner above also make fantastic, reusable wine charms! Just scribble a name and tie them on!
Want to re-create some of these chalkboard banners or labels for yourself? Join me this Sunday, February 16th, for the Michaels & Hometalk Pinterest Party!
I’ll be at the Middleton, WI Michaels location demo’ing these projects and happy to help you with your own! Simply show up, check out the Pinterest inspired displays, buy your supplies (the chalkboard materials are CHEAP – most are between $1.99-$9.99), grab your Starbucks, and meet me in the classroom to create your own pin-worthy project!
(Psst – not a fan of your handwriting? No worries! I’ll have stencils available in a variety of fonts for anyone wanting to make a large pennant banner similar to my “CHEERS” banner. No one will ever know you should’ve been a doctor in another life.)
Check out my Facebook event page for more details and to RSVP. The first 24 guests to arrive will receive these adorable chalkboard cards for FREE!

You’re so sweet – thank you so much, Susan!
Love these! For those of us that aren’t local and can’t attend your event, what stencils do you use?
Thanks Carla! I made my own “stencils.” I downloaded fonts online, printed them off, and traced them on to the chalkboards. It was easier than I thought it would be!
Can you share which fonts/sites you used? I am really interested in the font used on the large “Cheers” banner. Thank you!!
