Entertaining with Chalkboard Banners & Labels

When Hometalk and Michaels asked if I’d be one of 100 bloggers to join their nationwide “Pinterest Party” I was excited for the opportunity to get the creative juices coffee in my veins flowing!  We were given a variety of Pinterest-inspired projects to put our own spin on, including clay pots, burlap canvases, birdcages, and chalkboards.

I’ve always wanted to give chalkboard banners, labels and lettering a try and this was the perfect chance!  With our only parameter being that all of the materials needed to be purchased from Michaels, the possibilities for this project were endless!  I love party planning and entertaining, and my mind quickly started moving in that direction.  Here’s what I came up with!

“CHEERS” Chalkboard Banner made using pre-cut Chalkboard Paper Pennant Banners ($9.99 for 24 pennants).

This was my first time using a chalkboard pen and I was pleasantly surprised to find out you can easily wipe off any mistakes and re-do!  Another pleasant surprise?  Even though these chalkboard labels and pennants feel more like paper than traditional chalkboards, they’re wipeable and reusable!  If I want to turn my “CHEERS” banner into something else I can just wipe it clean with a moist cloth and start over!

I used Michael’s miniature chalkboard pennants to make this “Mmmm” banner for the brownie bites. They’re $7.99 for a package of 44 mini pennants (they come in black and pastel colors), two sticks, and string.

I covered Michael’s square chalkboard frames on sticks ($4.99 for 5) in wash tape to make colorful food signs.

I couldn’t resist these speech bubble chalkboards mounted on clothespins – they’re so cute!  As soon as I saw them I knew they’d be perfect clipped to the side of a bowl as a whimsical addition to a food display.  I covered the front of the clothespin with washi tape for even more fun and color!

What does your food say?

Cake pops are yummy…in case you didn’t know.

The mini chalkboard pennants I used for the “Mmmm” banner above also make fantastic, reusable wine charms!  Just scribble a name and tie them on!

Thanks Carla! I made my own “stencils.” I downloaded fonts online, printed them off, and traced them on to the chalkboards. It was easier than I thought it would be!

Can you share which fonts/sites you used? I am really interested in the font used on the large “Cheers” banner. Thank you!!
