The votes were pretty much split across social media for the Stitch Fix poncho I shared earlier this week. It was so cute (and I’m a sucker for cable knit) but I’ve decided to send it back. A lot of you made some great points and in the end I think it was the lack of arm holes that tipped the scales for me.
Now here’s a look at another top I received in this month’s fix with no shortage of holes!
Not familiar with Stitch Fix? It’s a fantastic online personal shopping service, and I’m totally addicted to it. You are matched with a personal stylist who selects 5 items for you to try based on your budget, style, and body type. The items are shipped to you for free, you try them on in the comfort of your home, and then ship back (for free, and from your mailbox!) whatever you don’t want to keep. There’s a $20 styling fee for your total “fix” (your collection of 5 items) which is applied as a $20 credit to whatever you decide to keep. This Pixley Lenta cut-out blouse is the most beautiful shade of cobalt blue. And how fun are all those cut-outs?! It comes with a matching adjustable spaghetti strap camisole to wear underneath so you can enjoy the cut-outs without baring too much skin, which is nice.
The inner camisole is form-fitting and stretchy (your basic cami), but the outer overlay material is flowy, lightweight, and not at all clingy – pretty much my top 3 criteria when it comes to tops. It has overlapping side seams which is fun (the shirt moves with your body and may drape open up at the sides as you move) and the hem is a little longer in the back than in the front.
Outfit Details
Top: Pixley via Stitch Fix ($64)
Jeans: AG via Evereve
Wedges: Banana Republic
Necklace: Evereve
If it was June right now I’d be keeping this top in a heartbeat, but it’s the end of October in Wisconsin, and even though this was a bright and sunny day we don’t have many of those left. Winter is just around the corner and unfortunately nearly all of my winter clothes were relocated to storage several months ago as we temporarily downsized to move in with my in-laws. When we packed up all of our things last spring we thought we’d be in a new house by the end of summer, but we had a change of plans. We’re still basement living and my arms are starting to get cold.
I’m sure this top would look great with one of my 2,749 cardigans or jackets…but those are all in storage, too. So – since I’m a bad packer and planner (and have zero extra closet space) – this top is going back but I still wanted to share it in case anyone else was interested in it and wanted to request it for your next fix.
Did you know you can request to have certain items (or even kinds of items) sent to you? Just add a little note to your style profile or in the comment box when you check out. For example, my next note to Sarah (my stylist) will go a little something like this:
Dear Sarah,
Send more cobalt blue.
Love, Dusty
New to Stitch Fix? I’d love for you to use my referral link to sign up! Singing up is free and you are not charged until you are ready to schedule your first “fix.” Need more info? Check out my full Stitch Fix Review.
Have you gained weight?
YES! Haven’t you heard I’m house pregnant? #allthefood
Wow, Sarah.. Just wow.
My thoughts exactly, Crystal. Wow. Dusty is gorgeous.
I think you look great to me!
I do too!! Some people just forget their mental filters, I guess.
Thank you! Luckily, I seem to not have that little voice in my head that says I should measure my self-worth or beauty based on my weight. (As I eat my popcorn and drink my wine. <- I call it the Olivia Pope diet.)
great attitude! good for you. Love that blue on you and good call on the poncho.
Thank you so much!
Blue looks gorgeous with that beautiful red hair of yours!!
Thank you, Pam! I really love this color.
You look great! Love the blue! I remember a while back when I put on a few pounds, someone asked me if I had gained weight. I think my response was something along the lines of “Crap is that why I couldn’t button my jeans and had to buy new?!”
@Ashley B – But we can still rock yoga pants! #high5
I am a long time reader who never comments and I gotta give a shout out to my girl Dusty bc you look fantastic!
Thank you, Erin! So nice of you to say.
Popcorn and wine…worth every ounce, right? You look great!
Oh you know it, girl! My favorite. And thank you!
I gained a lovely 10 pounds the spring we moved into our new house with a 7 month old. However, mine did not look good. Without sounding creepy, you’ve got an ass that won’t quit! I think you look beautiful!
LOL! Thank you!
Your hair is just gorgeous. I can’t look at anything else:)
You’re so sweet, thank you Carmen!
You always have the most gracious and smart comebacks. Have you read the new Mindy Kaling book? She has a chapter about how women’s weight is a topic that some people think is okay to talk about/critique, though we would never say that to a man (plus, it shouldn’t be a conversation topic. Period). You look great! I’m not a huge fan of holes in the shirt, though the color is enough to make me like it more (and you totally rock wearing it). I agree with the commenters above, your hair looks fantastic. Hair tutorial, please!
I haven’t read that book, but it sounds like I’d like it. Thank you for the recommendation, Alison!
Unfortunately people do say that to men (boys). My teenage son is a bit overweight and he gets body shamed all the time. Friends constantly comment on what he eats and these are people I know would never say the same to a girl eating the same things. It sucks for all the people. Time for everyone to mind their own business on other people’s weight issues.
You’re totally right, Kim. Unfortunately everyone is held to ridiculous expectations (followed by shame and ridicule) by our appearance-obsessed culture. I’m so sorry to hear your son is going through that. It’s definitely not okay!
What’s wrong with people??? I would NEVER think of asking anyone that question…..Dusty, you are beautiful inside and out and I LOVE the blue color on you. Beautiful with your hair color.
Thank you, Debbie!
