So Long Pumpkin, We’ll Always Have October

December 8, 2008 By Dusty Rogers 19 Comments

Dear Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte:

You’ve been good to me, Pumpkin. You were always there when I needed you. Always sweet. Always warm. Remember that random 70 degree week in October when I wasn’t sure what season we were in? One sip of you and I remembered it was fall. Like my favorite striped turtleneck, you’ve comforted me both inside and out. But Pumpkin, I owe it to us to be honest with you–lately my feelings are beginning to…change.

I’m growing up, and the temps are going down. And with this chill in the air I’m getting a little…oh, I don’t know…restless. I can’t help but question what else is out there. What might I be missing? The time has come for me to move on. To sow my wild oats. Time for me to explore something with a little more flavor. Something with a little more heat.

And that something is Mint.

Starbucks Peppermint Mocha Twist to be exact.

Mint is that extra thrill I’m craving! Mint is a little more dangerous. A little more exciting. Mint’s got a motorcycle and a chip on his shoulder, and with this 20 degree weather that’s exactly the kind of hotness I need right now. Pumpkin, you’re sweet and all, but Mint makes me want to sneak out of the house on an icy winter day in knee high stilettos and no hat. Not to mention on those extra cold nights I know I can turn to Mint’s naughty cousin–Salted Hot Chocolate. I just don’t get that from you, Pumpkin. Or your family.

This hurts me as much as it hurts you–you have to know that. I never thought I could feel this way about another latte. And I swear I never meant for this to happen–it just happened. You were my first love and that’s something that can never be replaced. I’ll always think back on the times I’ve held you in my hand with fond memories.

This is not goodbye forever, Pumpkin. I will return next fall. I hope you can wait for me. In the meantime–I promise to use protection (and by protection I mean a coffee collar). Please don’t hate me.

Love, D

On again, off again … you’re a fickle lover. Poor mint is bound to be booted aside before long. I just hope he can handle it.

I LOVE the Peppermint Mocha Twist! I have to sneak to a different Starbucks any time I want that because the one by my work has my “drink” ready as soon as I walk in, which is sweet, but NOT in December!

LMAO… this post is hilarious. I do enjoy the peppermint latte (although not the twist). I’m sure that the Pumpkin Spice will totally understand. He’s underloved in December, that’s for sure.`

That letter is too funny! I may or may not have an addiction to the fabulous Carmel Apple Spice drink from there!

I totally agree!! Although I’ve been flirting with the Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha… everyone’s raving about the Peppermint Mocha Twist so I’ll have to try it – what’s the difference I wonder??

From a virgin to a play-a so quickly! At least you let Pumpkin down gently. That was really, really funny.

Oh, my gosh! You crack me up. Not a latte drinker but knowing they have a mint one…….I might become one. I was just happy about the eggnog shake at MickeyD’s. Do they have one in the flavor of Skittles?

How funny. I also am a fan of both, but 2 flavors call for 2 different seasons. Enjoy the Mint mocha! :)

My mom has been going on about this latte. This settles it: I haven’t tasted Christmas until I’ve tasted this latte.

You need to try the drink I’ve been addicted to since this past summer. The Raspberry Mocha, non-fat, no whip. Oh my…what a drink. I can’t move on to anything else. I’m hooked.

I just had to come back here and check out the name of this delicious creation. It’s super cold in Indiana today and I think one of these is calling my name. It will be perfect company while I’m running arround town doing errands!
