Starbucks & I Are On a Break

May 4, 2009 By Dusty Rogers 26 Comments

I’m at a point in my life right now where Starbucks just can’t give me what I need. We had a long, hot, steamy, whip-creamy affair last fall and winter–but now its spring. A time when I tend to give up hot caffeinated beverages, opting instead for things like lemonade and margaritas…and more margaritas.

So this is a break. Not a break up. Starbucks and I have an understanding. He promises to give me the space I need, wait patiently for me to return in the fall, and not sleep with the copy girl. I, on the other hand, have promised to steer clear of all other overpriced coffee chains, siren-emblazoned cardboard cups, and whipped cream.

I don’t regret my decision, but I’m not going to lie–sometimes I find myself slowly driving by at night and peering into the windows, trying to catch a glimpse of who else might be in there, and wondering what they might be doing.

I’m only human.

In the end, I think it’s an experience we’ll both grow from. And I believe we’ll appreciate each other even more once the temperatures drop and we’re back together again.

Wait for me Starbucks! Wait for me.

Their Iced Black Tea is amazing for warm times. Unsweetened is great, but if you like it a little sweeter, ask them for some honey. It’s AMAZING. And cheaper than coffee!! Let me know if you try it – I’m trying to get the world in on this.

Incidentally, they make a tasty Arnold Palmer, as well as other lovely ICED and BLENDED drinks, including a frosty concotion inspired by Pinkberry (it’s tart-I hate it!)

    Just sayin’. 😉

Just make sure you don’t drunk text Starbucks during this break from each other…..b/c that could only lead to a late night booty, errrr, I mean coffee call.

::looks around alarmed:: Wait, was that out loud?

So true and so funny! I’m a sangria drinker from May – August. I may crack and get a green tea every now and then but for the most part, we part ways during hot months.

    Hilarious post!

My favorite summertime drink is lemonade and iced tea! Both can be homemade, which means cheap cheap!

There may come a moment this summer when you catch yourself longing for your Starbucks. There’s nothing wrong with a little mid-summer action. A little mocha frappucino or iced coffee is what it is. Nothing serious.

Did you at least give Starbucks a promise ring? He called me earlier and cried into my voicemail but I couldn’t understand a word.

Oh my, that was too funny. Let us know if you cave in for some Starbucks summer lovin’. They really do make good cool drinks. Not margaritas, but tasty nonetheless.

What?!?!?! I didn’t know Starbucks was cheating on me with you. That’s ok though. He is so great I don’t mind to share him.

However, I will still probally see him occasionally in order to get an icy cold mocha frap.

I agree – these comments are making me thirsty, too!

You must try Iced Coffee Sangira. It’s fabulous made with Starbucks Coffee and probably right in your taste profile. Yummy!

first time post from a fellow wisconsinite…unforunately tho i left the classy milwaukee for a not-so-classy oshkosh.

anyways, i love a carmel apple cider in the midst of fall and i crave peppermint mochas during christmas time in the lovely red cup.. but there is nothing like an iced coffee on a hot spring and summer morning. i can’t quite give up the starbucks because of that.
