Layered Look

October 7, 2009 By Dusty Rogers 21 Comments

Right now I’m in that in between stage where some of my regular shirts are becoming too short, but maternity tops are too long. I’m still wearing my regular tops, but as my belly grows and length is becoming an issue I’m getting just a little more wear out of them by layering a long tank top underneath. Hopefully this will tide me over for a couple more weeks!

Shirt: Old Navy
Tank Top: Gap
Maternity Jeans: Gap Maternity
Belt: Old Navy
Shoes: Nicole
Pregnancy: 24 weeks

love the fall colours! i used my bella band under my too short non-mat shirts..it looked like a black tank layered underneath. i’m impressed you’re still in heels!

I love the layered look too, pregnant or not.

Where did you buy the shoes? I keep meaning to ask. I really like them!

Bella Bands are great (I had 2 with lace at the bottom). Target carries them too now (I think they’re just called Belly Bands). Target also has great basic white maternity tank tops that somehow managed to stretch enough to cover my belly all the way through to labor. At under $10 a pop I can’t recommend them enough.

I know we’re supposed to talk about the clothes, but I’m obsessed with your hair. Once I had bangs like that and B said “I think you have to have a really pretty face to have blunt bangs” This was not a compliment.

I love your style, but I have to agree with the previous anonymous poster. I’m not a fan of the belt with your baby bump. It just looks out of place.

Still looking great! I like the trick of layering! My friend used a lot of ribbon in the same way that you use the belt. She felt that many of her maternity tops make her look bigger than she was and didn’t give her a shape. She used ribbon (she made some trips to the craft stores) and it looked really cute.

    Thanks for your comments everyone!

@K*OS–The shoes are from DSW. I got them a year or two ago. They’re a little banged up, but I love them so much I just can’t bear to retire them!

@Lisa–Under $10 for a mternity tank? I’ll have to check those out, thanks!

@Martinis–Oh no, that was a total FAIL for B, lol! I think you’re just lovely!

@Anonymous(x2)–Thanks for your comments. I know the belted look isn’t for everyone, but like blondie mentioned, it’s one way to help give tops more shape while I have this growing baby bump trying to make everything look like a tent on me. The placement may look a little strange, but then again, what doesn’t look strange when you’re pregnant, lol! I personally love the belted look, so I should warn all the belt non-lovers out there that this isn’t the last you’ve seen of them!

none of the clothes you wear look like a tent, they are all fitted. Unless you voluntarily buy some maternity top that is HUGE, I don’t see the need for the belt either… it just looks really out of place, and this is coming from a pregnant woman who hates tent like old school mat clothes…

LOL at the belt-haters…jeesh! I think you and your belt look great! Do you remember which maternity jeans those are from GAP? I’ve been looking online and can’t tell which ones they are–I love them!

@Maria & Anonymous–These are Gap full panel long and lean jeans. I got them on clearance (and they may still be on clearance!) but it also looks like this is a style they always carry so they should be easy to find. Hope that helps!

Love your style and I’m so impressed that you keep it going while being pregnant. I was HUGE at this point with both of my pregnancies and fashion was out the door. Way to go and Congrats!

I’m so jealous you can still wear heels. I’ve had to ditch them and find all my pants are now way too long. Kudos to you!

@Jenny–I’ll be in that same situation when it’s time to hang up the heels. I think I only have 2 pairs of pants that are short enough that I don’t need to wear heels with them. But I figured by that point I probably won’t care anymore.
