All Things Loved In July

July 31, 2008 By Dusty Rogers 9 Comments

I think the thing I’ve loved most this past month is budgeting! Yep, you heard me. All things budgeting. Or allocating, as they say over at fabulous finances. I’ve tracked a fairly loose budget over the past couple of years and have always had a good idea where my money is going, but this month is the first month I’ve really hammered down and gotten specific. I’ve budgeted–er, I mean allocated–down to my last dollar. And even better–I’ve stuck to it! My biggest concern was curbing my discretionary spending, so I put myself on a $75/week budget for anything non-essential like eating out, drinking, clothes, shoes, hair, entertainment, etc. I decided anything left over at the end of the week will be banked for pricier future discretionary purchases (like handbags). Well so far I have a pretty good chunk of change banked in just a few short weeks! It’s amazing to realize how much money I was blowing on nothing.

So on a related note–another July love has got to be my new $1 GAP jeans, not to mention my free dress shirt, tank top, and necklace I scored earlier this month. Best. Shopping. Trip. Ever.

And while not part of the July budgeting, my fabulous new Kate Spade bag did arrive in the month of July. Oh how I love thee.

Now I’m sure this will come as no surprise to most of you, but my fourth love in July has got to be blogging. I went from 13 posts during my first month of blogging in April, to 7 posts in May, 12 posts in June, all the way up to 25 posts in July! It’s official–I’m addicted. And I’m just as addicted to my Google Reader, too! I love reading other people’s blogs and commenting. Fun times–and it’s free!

I also loved the movie Hancock. Will Smith and a comic book movie? What more could this girl ask for? Now we just need to get back to the theatre to see the new Batman movie and I’ll be all set!

And I gotta give a shout out to my amazing husband, G. We had a lot of fun together this month–from chasing down an ice cream truck, to volleyball tournaments, to movie nights and swapping back rubs. And it’s a good man who’ll get out of bed at 2am to pick up a group of drunks after a Poison concert (us girls, and our 2 not-so-designated drivers can all thank G for a safe ride home that night). And then there was a couple of weekends ago when I went up north to visit my sister, Brittny. I came home to a SPOTLESS house, all the laundry done, and some adorable colorful daisies on the kitchen counter. Seriously the best husband ever!

And last but not least–Poison. I’m now powerless to resist that 80’s hair and rocker scream. You know you love it, too.

Very impressive – now that the wedding’s over we’re buckling down on our budget, too. I think. Everytime you post a picture of your handbag I love it more.

Well I know I’m going to sound like an awestruck teenager, but I just admire you so much for your decorating skills. I sort of had my mouth haning open as I took the virtual tour of your home. It’s absolutely lovely. One day (when I have a home again – long story) I hope that it will be as classy and attractive as yours. I see where Jen gets her inspiration from.
