First Prenatal Appointment

July 27, 2009 By Dusty Rogers 15 Comments

Today I’m 8 weeks and 1 day pregnant and had my first prenatal appointment! At the start of the appointment the nurse asked me how I’ve been feeling and I said, “Good. Too good! I’m beginning to worry that I’m not really pregnant. I WANT TO SEE THIS BABY!!” Well luckily we didn’t have to wait long–here s/he is!

G and I were so excited to see our little baby for the first time! They confirmed that my due date is January 4, 2010. The baby is measuring at 1.7 centimeters (so less than an inch) and I think they said the heartbeat was 170bpm, but neither one of us can remember for sure. I can only remember what it sounded like–music to my ears!

This appointment was really short and sweet. We met with a nurse who did the ultrasound and then afterwards I went to the lab for a blood draw, and that was it. The blood draw was horrible, but thank goodness I did not pass out. It was touch and go there for a bit. I just kept picturing our little baby which we had just seen for the first time. G also did a good job distracting me by bringing up designer handbags–he’s going to make a great labor coach!

My next appointment is in 2 weeks which is when we’ll meet with the doctor, hear my lab results, and get a ton more information. For now we’re just thrilled to have official confirmation that we’re having a baby–not to mention seeing him/her and hearing the heartbeat. What an incredible day!

    It’ll only get better my dear, and FYI, oh all the things you do in preparation blogging is up there on the importance scale. I look back and feel like I’m reading some one else’s blog, because I feel so different!

    I have my first appointment this morning. And I feel the same way you did… I just don’t feel PG and want to see this baby. Glad to hear that I will most likely get to see it.

    Yay!

    Why does it say written on May 26, 2009 at the very top of this delightful post? That seems odd.

    Thanks everyone! It was a pretty amazing day for us!

    @Leah–thanks for confirming what I was already thinking! I think I’m going to love having this little online journal to look back on. It’s so easy to forget things you swear you’d never forget!

    @Michelle–How did your appointment go?

    @jbhat–I wrote this post on 5/26/09–which was the day of this apt/ultrasound. I’m currently 17 weeks pregnant, but am still publishing posts written from before I “announced” my pregnancy to catch everyone up. I should have them all published in the next couple of weeks and then I’ll be on track. But for now you’re reading about things that have happened in the past, throughout my pregnancy, up to this point.
