Strange Pregnancy Dreams

September 18, 2009 By Dusty Rogers 11 Comments

So far I’ve only had two really strange dreams during my pregnancy.

Weird Pregnancy Dream #1
I like to think of my first one as my “Weekend at Bernies” dream. I had it during my first trimester when I was SO TIRED that all I could do was either sleep or think about sleeping.

I have a group of girlfriends from all around the country that I met on The Nest’s Decorating and Renovating online message board (my fellow “whores”) and we have a get together every year. It’s a big event that we plan for and look forward to for months, and in my dream it was my turn to host. The whores and I were all somewhere in my city where there was this public bathroom that was just one room–completely tiled–with a toilet, a sink, and a shower head on the wall. No designated, separate shower space–you just showered in the middle of the room or something. A few of us had to go to the bathroom and we all walked into this room together. My friend Aly (from Florida) went first and then instead of flushing the toilet, she accidentally hit the handle that turned on the shower, and my friend Emily (from Maryland) and I got sprayed with water. Emily and I ran out into this little seating area just outside the bathroom where there were mirrors so we could asses the damage and fix our hair. Em was going on about her hair which she had straightened for the day, but I wasn’t saying anything–I was just staring at her with this shocked look on my face.

Finally I asked incrediously, “Emily??? What are you doing here?”

And then I looked back into the bathroom and saw Aly and said, “Aly??? Oh my god, WHAT ARE YOU GIRLS DOING HERE???”

Aly and Emily looked at me like I was crazy and replied, “Dusty–what are you talking about? We’ve been here all weekend.”

And then I started BAWLING because I realized I had SLEPT THROUGH THE ENTIRE WEEKEND GET TOGETHER!

The girls thought I was awake the entire time, but really I was asleep with my eyes open or I was sleepwalking or something. It all started on Friday morning when G couldn’t get me to wake up, so he propped me up in the car and drove to the airport to pick everyone up. He knew all the things I had planned for the weekend, so he took us around to all those places. He didn’t want to tell the girls what was going on with me because he didn’t want to ruin the weekend for everyone. Once Aly turning the shower on me woke me up I had very vague memories of us walking around town and G practically carrying me, but trying to make it look like I was walking by myself so no one would catch on. At one point while I was in my sleep coma I remembered that my friend Beth (from Alabama) looked at me all worried and asked, “You doing okay, girl?”

And then I woke up.

It all seemed so real that at first I thought it had really happened. It was so crazy! Our next get together is right around the corner–I hope I can manage to stay awake for it!

Pregnancy Dream #2
My second pregnancy dream also occurred during my first trimester. A few things led up to me having this dream. The first was a conversation with my friend Jill, who is also pregnant and due 7 weeks before me. She told me that she was having crazy mood swings, and likely driving her husband nuts. She asked if I was experiencing that yet, and I told her no. Right around that time I overheard G talking on the phone saying, “No, her moods have been totally normal,” and realized he was being asked if I was having any of those crazy pregnancy mood swings yet.

My dream was that G and I were standing in the kitchen and he did something so minor that I can’t even remember what it was, but for some reason it threw me into the biggest rage I’d ever had in my life. I was so angry that I just wanted to swear up a storm and rip his head off–but G and I agreed when we first started dating that we would NEVER swear at each other (and believe me, neither one of us is a stranger to the f-bomb). It’s something we’re both committed to, and no matter how angry we are at each other or how badly we’re fighting, we never use swear words directed at the other person.

Well, even in my dream I couldn’t cross that line! I was SO ANGRY I thought my head was going to explode, and I just looked at G trying to think of the worst possible thing I could say without swearing and yelled, “YOU SUCK!”

He just looked at me like I was crazy and proceeded to walk out of the kitchen while I followed after him continuing to yell, “YOU SUCK!” over and over again.

When I woke up I felt absolutely terrible about “dream” going off on my poor unsuspecting husband. And what’s worse–G was out of town at the time and I was missing him like crazy! As soon as I was able to tell him about my dream and clear my conscience I started to find it remarkably funny. Now I can’t even think about it without laughing!

Any strange dreams you’d like to share? I’d love to hear about them–crazy loves company!

In my 3rd trimester, I would dream about how my son was going to look. One night I dreampt (is that a word?) that my son came out looking like my dog. You have to know that my dog is a chihuahua… and he didn’t have the body of a dog, but just the physical characteristics, like the long pointy ears and the big long nose and the HUGE eyes and little face. And that everyone kept telling me he looked just like Bailey, my dog. Nice – huh? Thank God he doesn’t resemble her at all. šŸ˜‰

I just had a dream last night (I’m 20 weeks) that my baby girl was born, we named her Julia (not a name in consideration at all) and she could already talk. She also mysteriously disappeared after one night, but all of the clothes she had been wearing were still there. It really freaked me out.

The “YOU SUCK!” cracked me up! I wish I had written down some of my crazy pregnancy dreams, because I know I had them, but now I can’t remember.

I’m not pregnant nor have I ever been, but the other night I dreamt I had a baby girl about 4-5 months crawling around this vent. I had told her to move away from the vent and tried steering her my direction, but she went straight for the vent. Next thing I knew, the vent had sucked her in! I screamed and cried and went hysteric until I realized I could pop open the vent and grab her before she got shredded into pieces. So I tore the vent open and dug into insulation-like hay only to find pieces of her clothing. I remember thinking, “wth? where’s her body?” And by the time I realized it, she was crawling next to me. Instead of being 4-5 months, she was now 8-10 months. I looked at her and it all clicked in my head…”oh my baby girl knows how to time travel!” Obviously, I’ve been thinking too much about the Time Traveler’s Wife. Have you read it? Good book!

I had a dream that I went to spend some time with my friends. I had asked the doctor if it was okay to have a glass of wine. She said, “Yes.” I got to our gathering spot and ended up wasted. Then…I did it again the next night. I was bawling my eyes out in the dream, because I was afraid I had killed my baby. If I wasn’t craving wine before…I am surely not craving it now!

LOL Megan! That’s too funny! Thank goodness your dream didn’t turn out to be accurate! Shortly before we found out we were having a girl G’s mom dreamt that we had a little girl, only she had G’s face. Not G’s face when he was a little baby–G’s grown adult man face that he has NOW, on this little teeny baby body, lol! I’m crossing my fingers that doesn’t hold true, too!

@Domestic Princess–I’ve read that book, but don’t remember that part. Although maybe my subconcious does!

@Erin–Ooh, that’s so scary about the disappearing–I woudl have been freaked out too! Before I knew we were having a girl I dreamt that we had a daughter (she was 1 or 2 years old in my dream) named Anna–a name that we weren’t considering at all, either. Very strange.

@Andreina–Ooh, those sound like fun, lol!

@Priscilla–OMG, that’s one crazy dream! And I haven’t read that book yet (or seen the movie) but I really want to. It looks so good!

@SAB–I have similar dreams, although for some reason mine are usually about smoking obscene amounts of cigarettes while pregnant–SO CRAZY! I wake up totally freaked.

Hi, I’m new here (I found you on Megan Nielsen’s blog) and I just had to post my crazy dream!

Around week 6 or 7 of my pregnancy I felt exhausted all the time. One night I dreamt I was at the grocery store with my co-workers and fell asleep, standing up, in the eggs and dairy section! I was so tired that I dreamt about sleeping!

If that’s not wierd I don’t know what is :)
