October 5-11
Week 27–the last week of my second trimester! Baby G&D moves to a new growth chart this week. Her measurements are now based on length from head to toe (versus crown to rump) and she is now approximately 15 inches long (and just over 2 pounds). Here’s an interesting fact–she has more taste buds right now than she will ever have for the rest of her life and she can actually taste the differences in her amniotic fluid based on the different foods I eat. Pretty crazy, huh?
On the exercise front, I’m happy to say I ran all the way through my second trimester, but I’ve definitely been feeling the pressure of the baby’s weight and my growing belly, so it’s time for me to hang up my running shoes for the year. I’ll be sticking with my elliptical machine and some light strength training from here on out. I also took a water aerobics class for the first time earlier this week and I think I’ll add that to my routine as well.
Since this is the end of my second trimester I thought I’d share some of my pregnancy stats so far:
Total weight gain: 15 pounds
Belly circumference: 40″
Stretch marks: None
Belly button: In
Swelling: Once
Heartburn: None
Varicose veins/skin tags/other horrors: None
Overall comfort level: Good
My weight gain is right on track with where I was hoping to be. I didn’t gain any weight during my first trimester and 15 pounds during my second trimester, for a total gain of 15 pounds overall. My weight was a little low earlier in this trimester, but it’s caught up over the past couple of weeks.
My belly button is still an “innie” although it’s definitely creeping to the surface, and with how far out I’m carrying I’m sure it will become an outtie eventually–it’s just a matter of time. Same with the stretch marks.
The only swelling I’ve experienced was on the flight home from Alabama a couple weeks ago, and it was sheer hell. I think the long weekend had taken more out of me than I had realized and that flight home was miserable. I was so tired (but couldn’t sleep because there was so much turbulence) and my entire body ached–even my belly!–but the swelling was by far the worst. My feet and legs were so swollen and painful that I just wanted to slice them open to relieve the pressure. And of course the flight was longer than expected because of bad weather. By the end I was fighting back tears and silently screaming GET ME OFF THIS PLANE! It was midnight before I got home, so I decided to take the next day off work and ended up sleeping 20 of the 24 hours. Luckily when I woke up the swelling (and all the other aches and pains) were gone, and I haven’t had any swelling since.
To my knowledge I still don’t have any stretch marks, skin tags, or other pregnancy horrors–although I’ve recently realized that I can’t actually see my entire body. I’ve sported a bikini a couple times over the past few weeks and have made it clear to observers that if they do see any skin tags or stretch marks I don’t want to hear about it. Same holds true if I missed a spot shaving my bikini line. If I can’t see it, it’s not my problem.
My overall comfort level has been good, although I’m really beginning to slow down. I can’t walk as fast as I’m used to, and I’ve learned that sudden movements are really not in my best interest. The other night I rolled over in bed too quickly and got a sharp pain in my side that lasted about a minute. That wasn’t good. I’m (slowly) adjusting to slowing down and taking it easy.
So there you have it–27 weeks and my second trimester wrap-up!

You look awesome!! And thank goodness for no skin tags! haha
You are such a cute pregnant woman!! It looks like you are having a pretty easy pregnancy! Your weight gain sounds great!
Ooh, I hear ya on the swelling! When I was pregnant with Noah I flew out to South Africa at 24 weeks pregnant and home again at 28 weeks – it’s a 12 hour flight! I was so miserable and my legs were so swollen they were like tree trunks. I couldn’t even bend at the ankle. Not my fondest memory.
Let me start by saying, I am so happy for you that it is going so well. You are definitely a gorgeous pregnant woman! You’ve never looked so good! But, I am 20 wks and have sprouted 4 stretch marks…so I’m pretty jealous of you! I can’t wait to see the nursery also!
You are so adorable! I’m 13 weeks so I’m constantly checking in to see what I have to look forward to!
awww.
you make an adorable “pregnantly lady”. š
xoxo,

Love the new pictures! I think it’s great that you’re being as active as you are.
My MD and I were chatting at my last annual about how many women give up all physical activity when they get pregnant because they think they can’t/shouldn’t do it anymore. In reality, my MD says that women who continue typically have a much easier pregnancy/labor.
You look great and your pictures with the bikini top were just darling! You look fabulous!
You look great! I hope I look half as good as you do when I’m pregnant
Great to hear how well you are doing!
Hi
I’ve never posted before but been reading for a little bit now.
I just wanted to tell you that you are such a beautiful pregnant woman. I’m 24 weeks pregnant right now and I wish I would have only gained 15 pounds by 27 weeks š
Hope the rest of your pregnancy will be as smooth as the first two trimesters
Jeane
You look great!
You look so adorable!
You look cold mama! You’re going to need a new photo spot here soon!
So glad that everything is going well! You look great!
Gosh how much I love your honesty! Especially the part about wearing a bikini and the shaving of the area!!! LOL. You are still looking so great and your belly is adorable.
Well, aren’t you just the stinkin’ cutest thing around?!
You are adorable! Wow I have a hard time running and I am not pregnant. Way to go!
Thanks so much for all your wonderful comments everyone!
@Jill–the nursery is coming along slowly but surely. Thanks for asking!
@Jen M–OMG, a 12 hour flight?? I don’t think I would have made it–eek!
@Sara–Sorry to hear about your 4 stretch marks. I’m positive they’re headed my way as well.
@Desiree–Congrats on your pregnancy!
@blondie–I’ll be crossing my fingers that that’s true about the labor part!
@Allison–You’ve got that right! It’s almost time to retire the outside pics and move it indoors. Brrr!
Pregnancy looks soooo good on you, D!
You know, from reading your blog for the last year or so, it always amazes me how you maintain such an upbeat outlook on life (sprinkled w/ humor), even before “swollen airplane ankles”. You really enjoy what life has to offer (ahem, wine) and pregnancy’s one of those things!
I kid you not, there have been times where I’m all, “WWDD? What would D do?” =]
@Freckles Chick–Oh my goodness, that has got to be one of the sweetest comments EVER. Thank you so much! That really means a lot to me.
