November 23-29
Not a whole lot new to report, which may be why at this week’s appointment the doctor reviewed my chart, looked at me and declared, “You’re boring.” I’m pretty sure that’s the first time anyone’s ever accused me of being boring–but when it comes to describing my pregnancy, I’ll take it!
Current pregnancy stats:
Total weight gain: 22 pounds
Belly circumference: 43″
Stretch marks: None
Belly button: In
Swelling: None

Varicose veins/skin tags/other horrors: None
Overall comfort level: Good
I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I’ve started needing to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. This has now turned into a strategic operation. One that requires almost as much forethought as rolling over. I’ve discovered that timing is everything. Here’s the deal–Baby G&D is active all day long, but she does a very good job of sleeping when I sleep. She seems to know when it’s bedtime and she’ll settle down and cozy up into my womb as I’m cozying up into my bed. If it’s the middle of the night when I need to get up to pee–like 2 or 3am–she’ll wake up for a few minutes while I’m awake, but then goes right back to sleep once my head hits the pillow. However, if it’s early morning–anything from 5am on–and I wake up to use the bathroom, there’s no getting back to sleep. She has somehow figured out that it’s “close enough” to wake-up time and decides for the both of us that sleep time is over and we need to start our day. Try as I might to lay back down and get another hour or two of sleep, it’s impossible to ignore that our little girl is wide awake and moving around like crazy. She’s not even born yet and she’s already kicking me out of bed! They learn fast, don’t they?
G’s family threw a baby shower for us this week, which was so sweet! We got a lot of great stuff and are getting closer to being prepared for Baby G&D’s arrival. My mom and my sister Apryl also surprised us this week with some beautiful handmade quilts for our little girl! One is a baby quilt which they machine pieced and quilted, and the other is a king-sized quilt for her to have when she’s older, which my mom machine pieced, and my sister Apryl hand quilted! They are both so beautiful and are heirlooms that we will cherish forever.
One last thing to note this week–stretchy maternity pants for Thanksgiving dinner? Highly recommended.

You are so lucky that the bathroom in the middle of the night thing only started recently. Mine started after about 4 months into my pregnancy! The worse part for me is trying to fall back asleep after waking up.
I am in EXACTLY the same position regarding getting up around 5am or so and then being up the rest of the day.
I threatened the husband with death after his alarm went off at 5am every day on Thanksgiving break even though he did not need to get up. Because while he could go back to sleep, I could not, and was NOT a happy camper!
Ahh yes – the baby waking at 5am – once she’s here, there’s no fighting the waking baby, might as well get up and adjust your schedule!!
Glad to hear things are going well. That is soooo sweet of your mom and sister!! Very cool!
On the maternity pants: keep them handy for subsequent TG dinners.
I’m so happy that your doctors find you and your pregnancy boring. What a blessing. I hope your labor and delivery and all of your well-child visits will also be as dull as dishwater.

You’re almost there!
I always tell my patients that it is GREAT to be boring! Sounds like you’re doing great
OMG, my son Carter did the same thing with waking up at 5am. I guess it got me use to not sleeping once he came, lol.
PS- I agree… wearing maternity pants during my TWO Thanksgiving dinners this year was one of the many things I was thankful for =)
I hope our little bean is as cooperative as your’s is. I guess I’ll find out in a few weeks.
I’ve never been preggers so the idea of the baby actually being asleep and awake astounds me. How do you know?? I just can’t wrap my brain around that idea.
Anywho, congrats on being “boring” ;). No news is good news, right??

Thanks for your comments everyone!
@jbhat–“I hope your labor and delivery and all of your well-child visits will also be as dull as dishwater.” This made me giggle. And I certainly hope so, too!
@Lizzie Beth–Before I got pregnant I would have felt the exact same way. Our baby is so active that it’s really easy for me to tell her wake periods from her sleep periods. She pretty much moves nonstop all day long so I know she’s awake. At night, around my bedtime, she’s much less active and when I lay down to go to bed before too long her movements will stop, so I know she’s asleep. It’s really pretty amazing to me!
You are so cute! Yay for a “boring” pregnancy. Here’s hoping the delivery is too! LOL
I think I mastered going pee in the middle of the night without fully waking up towards the end myself.
Uhm, yeah…….just wondering– where are the nursery pics? And no teasers either!!
I think every so often it hits me that WOAH, she has a HUMAN in there.
I love that your doc declared you boring! Knowing me I would have been insulted, HAH.
@Jill–They’re coming soon, I promise! I’m just waiting on a friend to finish sewing a few things for me, and then I’ll be ready to post pics!
@Mel–I know what you mean! I said to G one time, “It’s almost like a real live person!” :giggle
I hope our little one is as cooperative as your’s is. I guess I’ll find out in a few weeks.
