Said by me in response to the question: “Who brings vodka as a gift to a one-year-old’s birthday party?”
(To be clear, the vodka was for his parents, in celebration of making it through their first year of parenting–not for the baby.)

I have 4 month old twins and I was just thinking I’m going to start bring parents a bottle of wine for their children’s first birthday because they deserve something too for surviving the first year!
My husband and I bought a really good bottle of champagne on our honeymoon and were going to crack it open for our 5 year anniversary a couple months ago, but we thought by the twins first birthday, we’d deserve it even more!

Our neighbors had a “kids” party in the afternoon and broke out the keg once the kids were in bed… perhaps slightly inappropriate, but parents need a little fun too!
Tequila is an appropriate gift for the 2nd birthday….. just saying….
I’d love that gift, especially if it came with a babysitter for the morning after.

@jbhat–A morning-after babysitter would have been the perfect accompaniment. I totally dropped the ball on that one.
My daughters preschool teachers get alcohol from us every year for Christmas and the end of the year. It even comes with a little note that says “Don’t worry, she makes us want to drink sometimes too! Drink up and enjoy the holiday season!”

@Ryan–Oh I love that!! I would copy it for our daycare provider, but she doesn’t drink, which is hard to believe in my opinion. If anyone deserves a drink at the end of the day it’s an in-home daycare provider!
