Flowers & Plaid

February 20, 2012 By Dusty Rogers 9 Comments

I love seeing Kate decked out in her favorite plaid coat (that she insists on wearing everywhere) and this cute striped flower hat.  It reminds me of a line from her favorite book, “I’m Gonna Like Me” by Jamie Lee Curtis:

I’m gonna like me
wearing flowers and plaid.
I have my own style
I don’t follow some fad.

Kate loves this book maybe even more than she loves her plaid coat.  We read it almost every night (at her request) and she’s to the point now where she has most of the pages memorized and she “reads” it to us!

It’s a book about self-esteem told through the eyes of a little girl and boy who remind themselves they’re still going to like themselves no matter what.  It’s such a great read and the pictures are fantastic.  If you don’t already have this book, it’s an absolute MUST BUY for your children.

The line above was the very first line she memorized and started quoting, and I beamed with pride when I first heard her say it.

That’s my girl.

My outgoing little 30 month-old gal is brimming with all sorts of self-confidence, but this book sounds like a wonderful addition to our library. I love Jamie Lee Curtis. I met her one time in a shop where I used to work–and she complimented my appearance. It was so nice of her. But ugh, internally, I sort of questioned her judgement. I didn’t have any make up on that day. : )

Thanks for the suggestion Dusty. Kate is adorable as always.

I was wondering if you were planning(if not could you) on doing a post about the baby items you loved/hated/used/didn’t need the most? Would love to read you thoughts on that subject:)

I just started reading Jamie Lee Curtis books to my son..”big words for little people” is very cute also “is there a human race”. I love the illustrations…I find my self pausing to check them out, then my son nudges me to finish reading. I keep meaning to look thru them while he naps.

Thanks for the recommendation, Dusty! Anna (at almost 7 months old) LOVES books (she gets that honestly!) and I think JLC’s books would be an awesome addition to our library!

Kate is ADORABLE! I’m lovin’ that coat for me! :)

    Thank you everyone!

@jbhat–Something tells me JLC has excellent judgement. No need to question. 😉

@Anonymous–Yes! I’ve been taking notes since Kate was born and have several posts in draft form on the subject of my favorite baby things. Look for them coming soon!

@Anonymous–“Is There Really a Human Race?” was the first JLC book we ever got (a gift from Kate’s great aunt “Mimi”) and we all love it! I even brought it to work and read it to my co-workers as an “inspirational message” before one of our monthly staff meetings. It’s quite possibly my most favorite book ever. I’ve never heard of the “big words for little people” one, but I’ll definitely check it out!

@Carla–I’m sure your Anna will love them! You’ll have to let me know what she thinks!
