My 2012 Resolutions

February 10, 2012 By Dusty Rogers 7 Comments

So far in 2012, I’ve sacrificed my eyebrows to a mall kiosk, showed my ass on Bourbon Street, and sprouted a cold sore so large Kate called it “Mommy’s beard.”

Hard to top all that, right?

I should probably just close the books on 2012 now and end on this high note…but I think I’ve got more in me.

Last year I resolved to find more time for blogging, and that didn’t work out so hot, considering no matter how hard I looked I couldn’t find more than 24 hours in a day. This year I’m focusing on a different blog-related goal:

1. I will finally finish all the blog posts I currently have saved in my “drafts” folder.

I have all sorts of compelling stuff in draft form, just sitting there waiting to be finalized and published. I really need to get on that. (And you really need to excuse the fact that some of these may be dated.) Here’s just a sampling of things I resolve to write about before this year is over:

  • My girls getaway to Florida (*cough*last fall*cough*)
  • My organized entryway closet (thrilling stuff)
  • A super cute writing desk I refinished last summer
  • Kate’s cleft palate repair (this one’s looking like a 5-parter)
  • All my favorite baby products (before I start forgetting)
  • Kate’s nickname(s)
  • A little something I’ve titled “All My Friends Are Whores”

I also need to catch up on Kate’s monthly posts, and maybe even toss in a fashion post or two.  This girl’s got a lot of writing to do!

2.  Run 500 miles.
I feel like I need to up my game in the running department, so I’m increasing my annual running goal from 400 miles/year to 500 miles. I’m off to a slow start (I’ve only ran 37 miles so far this year) but I tend to increase my mileage quite a bit once winter is over. It’ll be a challenge for sure, but I really hope to hit my 500 miles!

3. Give yoga a try.
I’ve been reluctant to try yoga, but something tells me it might be the perfect stepping stone for me on my bumpy road to self-actualization.

4.  Can peaches.
I used to spend summers canning fruits and vegetables with my mom, and I’d really like to get back into it. Kate loves peaches and would be thrilled to enjoy them all year round, so this summer my plan is to begin there.

5. See most of the movies nominated for a Best Picture Oscar before the awards show airs on February 26th.
This is one resolution I better be checking off my list soon!  So far I’ve seen The Help, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Midnight in Paris, and Moneyball.  I’d still like to see The Descendants, and The Artist before Oscar Night (my favorite night of the year!) and I’ll be a happy girl!

6. Complete the 2012 Whole Living Challenge.
I’m almost through Week 1, so so far so good. Only three more weeks to go and I’ll be able to cross this one off my list as well!

So there you have it–my 2012 resolutions in writing for all the world to see!  Feel free to hold me accountable to these if you see me slacking off over these next 10 months.

What are your goals for this year?  Any progress so far?

you should give dragonfly yoga a try – close by and i found i really loved it. i think they’re still running their trial of unlimited for two weeks for $20. i’d still be going if i wasn’t pregnant!

good luck on your 500 miles – our running paths crossed a few times last year but you always left me in the dust. 😉

I’d love to read an update on how your first week of the cleanse went. I looked it over but figured i would be a starving and grumpy girl. I’d especially like to know what you did eat and what you did for the hubs.

    And yes to yoga!

Girl, I hear you on the severe lack of blog posts. Once I popped out the baby, my posting when DOWN.

I resolve to actually start taking care of myself– now that I have someone else to take care of too 😉

Thank you so much Milena–what a wonderful compliment!

@Melanie–I’ve seen Groupons for Dragonfly, but I haven’t bit the bullet yet. There’s a yoga-ish class at my gym that I think I’m going to try out first. You should stop me next time we’re running and say hi! I’d love to meet you!

@Erin–I do plan to post an update on how Week 1 of the Whole Living Challenge went. Look for it on Sunday!

That’s an EXCELLENT resolution LizzieBeth–good for you, girl!

My mom used to can peaches and oh, they were so good. One of my childhood favorites. Those and canned bing cherries. YUM!

My goal for 2012? No clothing purchases for myself. So far, so good!
