I’m back from the Haven Conference and so excited to share all the details from my trip! But first I need a day or two to catch up on my sleep, snuggle with Kate, cleanse my liver, and wrap my mind around all the fantastic information I learned and wonderful people that I met. Look for my recap posts coming later this week!
I could tell the beginning of our July was pretty crazy with getting ready for, hosting, and recovering from our 8th annual 4th of July Party, because we definitely seemed to lay low throughout the rest of the month. In fact, I even had my annual “staycation” at the beginning of July (taking a week off of work to stay home and catch up on things) and I didn’t even realize I was on vacation until Tuesday – 4 days after I’d left the office! Thank goodness we decided to slow things down and relax after that first week, because August is already looking like its going to be a very full month!
July 2: We hosted our 8th annual Fourth of July party, entertaining nearly 60 friends in our backyard. It was a beautiful evening, a great fireworks show, and always a pleasure to catch up with so many fabulous friends and have so many super cute kiddos running around!
July 3: We were overjoyed to celebrate Elijah Stephen’s entrance into the world – the adorable son of G’s sister Lesley and her husband, Ben! Lesley, Ben, and Elijah live in Seattle so we’ve only admired this little cutie via pictures, but we can’t wait to make a trip out there to snuggle him up in person!
July 7: G and I took Kate for her first “traditional” movie theater experience (technically her 3rd birthday party at a movie theater was her first time) and we all had a blast! We saw Monsters University and I’m not sure which Kate enjoyed more – the movie, or the TWO large tubs of popcorn that (mostly) she inhaled!
July 18: G’s parents went out to Seattle shortly after Eli’s birth and Kate (who is used to seeing them at least weekly) missed them SO MUCH! Grandpa Steve came home from Seattle early and took us out for pepperoni pizza and popcorn – two of Kate’s favorite things. That, and a little quality time with Grandpa was exactly what she needed to cheer up!
July 19: My office has recently started offering free yoga classes at lunch on Fridays, and I decided to check it out. This day was my first full yoga class (I’ve taken other classes that have a little yoga mixed in before, but never an exclusively yoga class), and even though I got my ass handed to me, I loved it! Giving yoga a try is one of my resolutions for 2013 and I’m so grateful for this convenient opportunity to fit it in!
July 21: G and I are beginning to think Kate is probably getting bored having just us as her playmates every weekend, so we’ve decided to try to do a better job of planning playdates with other kids her age. On this day we went over to Drew’s house and he and Kate enjoyed a morning of water play!
July 26: I hosted a wine tasting party at my house. I drank too much, ate too much, and definitely paid for both overindulgences the next day – but that night sure was fun!
July 30: I spent the day packing and getting ready for Haven, and looking forward to a fabulous time in Atlanta!
July 31: I flew into Atlanta one day before the conference started and had the pleasure of spending the day at my friend Katie‘s house, hanging out with her and her gorgeous sons, Will and Weston. We were later joined by Katie’s husband Jeremy and our friends Sherry, John, Clara and of course their cute little pooch, Burger. I love these girls so much, and it was one of the highlights of my month to spend the day with them and their beautiful families!
What were some of your highlights in July?

Highlight of July…watching our new house progress quickly – thank you beautiful Wisconsin summer! I can’t wait to hear more about your weekend!!
And I see you’re expecting – congratulations, Julie! Do you think your house will be ready before the baby arrives? Best wishes to you in these coming weeks!
I have to say that I am a little disappointed I didn’t get enough face time with you at Haven! Stay in touch. You are still a doll!
YOU are a doll, Deneen! It was so wonderful seeing you again, and I’m still cracking up over your Ryobi haul, lol! You’re right – we definitely didn’t have enough time together.
We will have to make up for it next year!
