Spring Dress: Keep or Return?

May 20, 2009 By Dusty Rogers 44 Comments

I recently got this cute springy dress from Target but I can’t decide if I should keep it or send it back for someone 10 years younger than me to purchase.

I was originally hoping to wear it to work (we have a pretty casual office), but now I think it’s too short for that. So what do you think? And if your vote is for keeping it, any ideas on where I could wear it?

Super cute dress, however, I wouldn’t wear it to work (just a wee bit too short for my comfort). I would definitely keep it for other occasions, though!

Keep it! I agree that it’s a tad short for work, but you could wear it for any other occasion (dinner or drinks out, parties, showers, etc.).

Could you wear it as a tunic over jeans or other pants? Also, in general, I think short dresses look cuter with flats instead of heels.

I say keep it and use it for those summer BBQs and evenings out–but I do think the heels are too heavy for it. Needs some simple light flip flops or sandals. Maybe in a nice yellow or light pink to match.

I agree with everyone so far. Bit too short for work, though putting it over jeans for casual Fridays is definitely a possibility. It’s lovely for a fun summery, feminine dress. It doesn’t look too young for that kind of thing. Sometimes it’s nice to look “sweeter” than we usually do. But different shoes! Softer sandals or dressy flip flops. :)

I agree keep it but pair it with some cute flats and ditch those heels they appear to heavy.

I say keep it – it’s very cute!

As far as where to wear it, I agree that it’s too short for work. But I live in dresses during the spring and summer, so I would wear it for just about anything else – running errands, girl’s night, BBQ, impromptu dinner out with the hubs…

Yes, too short for work, but fine for casual social stuff. You’re young, you can get away with it.

Definitely too short for work. Perfect for showers, parties, weddings, etc. for the summer. Definitely go with flats! What about trying it with some capri length leggings, so its more like a tunic? I think jeans/pants would be too heavy..but white or light colored leggings could be cute.

DEFINITELY keep it!! And yes, I just yelled “definitely.” It looks adorable on you. I wouldn’t wear it to work, but wear it on the weekends. Every weekend that you possibly can, for instance. It’s super cute, and p e r f e c t for shopping or swap meeting, or lunching with your girlfriends.

Perfect dress for all kinds of summer fun! If you still feel floaty and a bit adolescent (which you totally shouldn’t), you can belt it with a thick or dark brown belt to ground it a little more. Also, i have a list of people i would kill for those nine west beauties…

(i hope those are the nine west shoes i’m thinking about. if they aren’t, then i was just kidding.)

total keeper!! super cute!! will go scour my own target for it:) I would say wear with leggings (mid calf ones) with flats, but I know you don’t wear flats so in that case wear out to a good happy hour or something fun!

I have this dress & I love it! I wouldn’t wear it to work though–I’m 5’7″, so it’s a bit short for that. But, I have worn it to lunch with girlfriends & to dinner with the hubs.

I have this dress and I adore it! Too short for work (esp since I am climbing in and out of helicopters all day!) but I love it for the weekends. It’s so easy to throw on and slip on flats or flip flops.

I’m jumping on the “keep” band wagon”

Love it. Keep it. Wear it. Flaunt it. I’m wearing a similar one in jersey right now. Wear with skinny jeans to work, or as a dress to dinners out and just on hot days when the thought of fabric clinging to you makes you want to vomit.

Love it! Keep it! Wear it to work OVER some skinny black pants. Wear it by itself to social functions (not too short for that at all). And wear it over jeans for cooler weather.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! When I first posted this I forwarded the link to my favorite fashion gal, Jessica Shroeder from “What I Wore” (link to her blog in my sidebar) and here’s what she had to say:

“I think its great!! I love the shoes you put with it and the picture looks excellent. Would be great for a super hot night out or a picnic or something day time as well. I think its lovely. Keep it!”I was so excited to hear her feedback and to hear all the great ideas from all of you, so YES–I will be keeping this for fun little summer occassions! And I know flats would look great with this dress, but I’m just not a flats kinda girl. That said, I still promise to try to give flats a chance the next time I put this on.

Thanks again for all your feedback. I really appreciate it–especially since I have a couple more dresses I plan on asking your advice about. Stay tuned!

Personally, I would wear it to work with flats and a cute jacket or sweater (’cause it’s cold in my office). I also have on a white T shirt and boyfriend jeans today, but our office is super-casual.

I say “keep it”. It’s super cute and even if you don’t feel comfortable wearing it to work, you could wear it to casual daytime gatherings/picnics, shopping (maybe I should have put that first), afternoon drinks… you get the idea. Cheers!

I”m responding late but I bought that same dress! I was going to wear it to a wedding in two weeks. I love it. I bought the small since they were out of mediums, and it fits but it’s a little more snug than I prefer. I still think I’m keeping mine.

keep, but maybe some strappier wedges in the same colour as those heels? Super cute! I don’t think it’s too short at all.
