Oh, October – what fun we had with you!
October 2: Mine and G’s last day in NYC in celebration of our upcoming 10 year wedding anniversary. What a fantastic trip!
October 5: Because I didn’t imbibe enough in NYC (right), I spent this Saturday afternoon at Quivey’s Grove Beer Festival in Madison, WI with my friends Jill and Mandy. It’s an annual festival featuring more than 40 local brewers and 100 beers for sampling, great food, and live blues music. Bonus: I kept my mouth to myself this time (unlike last time).
October 6: One thing I’ve always loved is local history and old buildings. I’m fascinated by how cities begin, and then grow around these beautiful, historic (and near extinct) original structures – which is why I was so excited when G surprised me with a walking photo tour of our city! Offered by MadisonPhotoWalks.com, we learned more about Madison during this 2-hour walking tour than we have over our past 12 years of living here. It was like being tourists in our own city – we loved it!
October 9: I hosted my very first virtual Wildtree freezer meals workshop for this fabulous group of girls in Birmingham, Alabama. My friend Beth was my virtual party hostess guinea pig and it was such a fun and productive night! You can read all about the experience from Beth’s perspective in her recap New Favorite: Wildtree Freezer Meals Workshop.
October 13: Pumpkin carving day! G has turned into quite the master when it comes to pumpkin carving, and this year was no exception. My favorite was a designe he carved of a big pumpkin eating a separate little pumpkin gourd. I’m not sure how he’ll top that for next year, but I’m looking forward to seeing him try!
October 18: A much-coveted happy hour after work with my hilarious friend Katie (who just had her 2nd child). I don’t often include happy hours in my monthly photo recaps, but this one ended in a way that simply had to be documented for posterity. You see…Katie’s phone died somewhere around our 2nd margarita and although she had promised her husband Tim that she’d be home by 10pm, it was now 10:03 and we were still sitting on bar stools…so she used my phone to text him.
Only it wasn’t him.
October 22: Hello again, New York! Just a few short days after returning from our anniversary trip to NYC I received an email from Lowe’s Home Improvement inviting me back to New York City for their “Deck the Halls” event – all expenses paid! I said “yes” faster than a yellow cab running a red, and had the pleasure of spending 2 more days and nights in NYC!
October 23: I attended Lowe’s “Deck the Halls” event, enjoyed spending time with some new blogger friends, met some amazingly talented designers, and drooled over the ultimate holiday home they created in a New York City loft space. In this picture, left to right is Tracie from Cleverly Inspired, Gabrielle from Design Mom, Laura from Bright, Bold & Beautiful, and yours truly posing in front of the holiday entryway Gabrielle designed. If you follow me on Instagram and Facebook you’ve likely already seen the other 1,749 pictures I’ve posted of the event, but for those of you itching for more, you’re in luck – I’ll be posting them soon! A great big THANK YOU to Lowe’s for inviting me to be a part of this fabulous, twinkling holiday event!
October 25: Ten years ago on this day I was the lucky girl who married this handsome man!
October 26: I woke up on this day and decided to start the Whole30 challenge. After a month of traveling, indulging (bulging) and imbibing, it was time. (Past time, really, if you ask my jeans.)
October 27: On this day I had the pleasure of helping a local mom transform her house for her son Cade’s cowboy-themed 1st birthday party! The party was a Texas-sized celebration and this “General Store” loaded up with homemade apple pies, jars of ready-to-make cowboy cookies, cow pies and lots of other goodies was just the beginning. More pictures coming soon!
October 31: Despite appearing as Puking Preschooler all night the night before, Princess Unicorn rallied for the sake of Halloween and got her trick-o-treating on. (And now the #1 question in our house is, “When is it going to be Halloween again?”)
I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful start to your November!
