DIY Boot Socks from Old Sweater Sleeves

March 5, 2014 By Dusty Rogers 14 Comments

DIY cable-knit boot socks made from old sweater sleeves! | www.allthingsgd.com

It’s currently 15°F in Madison, WI.

Some of you may be enjoying the warm sunshine on your face or green grass between your toes on your little patch of the planet, but on mine I’m still trying not to get frostbite.

I love the look of thick, cable-knit boot socks…but not their price tag.  To keep my legs warm (and my boots adorned) this winter I’ve been improvising with these super simple DIY cable-knit boot “socks” made from old sweater sleeves:

Simply cut the sleeves off an old sweater (mine was stained) and pull them on with the cut side down (hidden in the boot) – no sewing needed!

Pinning! Totally going to do that. I have a few sweaters that never get worn. So cute!

Brilliant! I love how simple this is; yet, “why didn’t I think of that?” Thanks for sharing! :-)

Right? Sewing machines, scheming machines – no need for stitching here!
      Thanks Holly!

Dusty – this is so clever! And I’m in Chicago (snowing again today! Ack!) so I think I’m going to hit my closet and start cutting sleeves off of old sweaters …

Oh I hear ya, girl. We got another few inches of snow today – WTF?! We might as well look cute while we’re trucking through those snowbanks!

These are super cute! I love boot socks…love them! Thankfully we’re getting a little warming around here so I wish I had this idea a month ago!

Ack. I totally just made a pillow sham out of an old cable knit sweater (like this: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/62346776063442054/ ) and threw the sleeves away. On the plus side, now you know what to use the “leftover” part of your sweater for!

LOVE the pillow idea!! I still have the “body” of this sweater saved – I’ve thought of doing a pillow but IDK if there’s enough fabric (it’s one of those shrunken sweaters) but I love that idea, Megan! I used the leftover sweater material to wrap a poinsettia for our 2014 holiday decorations (http://www.allthingsgd.com/2013/12/2013-holiday-home-tour/) but so far that’s it. I’ll definitely be eyeing my other sweaters to make pillows out of them!
