The Last Day Of My Summer Vacation

July 7, 2008 By Dusty Rogers 6 Comments

Well folks, yesterday was the last day of my summer vacation. My time off (as time off is apt to do) went by in a flash. Not to mention the quasi drunken haze. But I’m happy to report I went out with a bang–Day 9 was so much fun! G took me to a Milwaukee Brewer’s game and we had a blast. The Brewers beat the Pirates 11-6 and the game was action-packed the entire time (which is unusual for baseball if you ask me). And I did manage to down 2 beers (you can’t go to Miller Park and not have a beer–it’s sacrilegious!) although I did make sure there were medics standing by in case I spontaneously combusted. After the game we went to G’s parent’s house on the lake and had a relaxing cookout (where I ate some apple!) with his side of the family. It was such a great day. And when I got home, I got a quick workout in and updated my blog before going to bed.

Now that my vacation is over, let’s take a moment to reflect on my goals for the past 9 days (cue the music):

A. Give my house the spring cleaning it never got?
Accomplished on Days 1, 4 & 5. And I did do some laundry on Day 3.

B. Work on various home projects I haven’t seemed to find the time for?
Day 4: Watered plants and did some weeding.
Day 5: Organized master bedroom closet. Finished organizing office closet. Installed privacy shade in our master bedroom, and pinned down the bed skirts in the spare rooms.
Day 6: Hung an outdoor candelabra over our patio table.
Day 8: Picked up some frames to finish the wall collage in the main guest room.

C. Shop my ass off until I can’t fit another pair of shoes into my closet?
I happily failed miserably at this goal. The only shopping I did during my time off was in the form of gifts for other people. And now I’ve decided my primary goal post-summer vacation is to spend as little money as possible. I’m putting myself on a spending freeze.

D. Commit to eating fruit and dropping that last 5 pounds?
I worked out on Days 3, 4, 5 & 9. And I ate fruit on Days 4, 7 & 9. And Days 2 & 3 if you count the limes!

E. Save the environment and end world hunger?
Day 1: Carpooled to Outback.
Day 2: Recycled a lot of glass and aluminum.
Day 3: Brought my own shopping bags to Target (environment) & sent a care package full of snacks and goodies to my friend currently stationed in Afghanistan (world hunger).
Day 4: Carpooled to Granite City.
Day 6: Purchased 13 lbs of food for a local food pantry.
Day 7: Fed the 15 people we had over for our 4th of July party.

F. Go on a 9 day bender, drinking and eating whatever I want?
The adorable Chiocutie will be happy to hear I made it through to the end! And if anyone’s looking for me between now and the next 90 days, I’ll be in rehab with Amy Winehouse and Miley Cyrus (you know she’s next).

G. Update my blog daily?
A success! Not only did I manage to update my blog with daily vacation & goal reports, I also managed to fulfill a reader request and add a picture of a 5,000 lb block of cheese. Now how many blogs can say that?

Carpooled to Outback totally cracked me up. I imagined a bunch of people carpooling there, then eating a feedlot steak. Lol.

    You crack me up!

I’m so proud of you. Not everyone can go on a (almost) 9-day binger while helping the environment & world hunger. In your face, Angelina!!

Hope your work week is mellow =)

Oh, I’m so glad that the bender didn’t really come to an end. That was definitely the most important goal. Well, that and entertaining us everyday for nine days – Thanks!
