Don’t Send Out the Search Party Yet

November 6, 2008 By Dusty Rogers 33 Comments

I’m alive! Although my leave of absence it not yet over, so I feel obligated to post about what’s currently keeping me from my regular blogging, catching up with the 700+ entries in my Google Reader, watching my favorite shows which have piled up in my TiVo, communicating with my friends, cooking dinner, and showering.

Under regular circumstances I would be utterly ashamed to admit publicly that I’m reading a book series with reviews from Teen People on the back cover. In fact, not only would I down-right deny it–I wouldn’t even crack the cover in the first place. But that was before…

Twilight.

*Please stand by while I give my breathing a chance to right itself*

I cannot tear myself away from the Twilight series! My friend Allison mailed me her copy of Twilight (book 1) which I reluctantly started reading last week Monday (also know as the day I began neglecting poor Chase). Here’s how my life has gone since:

Last Week
Monday: Started reading Twilight.

Tuesday: Could not put Twilight down.

Wednesday: Finished reading Twilight. Felt a surge of panic that it was over.

Thursday: Was out of town, but finally found a bookstore that sold New Moon (book 2). A note to my readers: Christian bookstores do not sell vampire love stories–just a little tid-bit I discovered this day that I’d thought I’d share.

Friday: Considered calling in sick to stay home and read New Moon. Stayed up all night to finish reading it instead.

Saturday: Began hyperventilating at the realization that I was already half-way through the series. Decided to read Twilight for the second time.

Sunday: Read New Moon for the second time.

This Week
Monday: Started Eclipse (book 3) and promised myself I’d only read one chapter at a time to really savor it. Showered.

Tuesday: Voted. Waited in line for an hour, reading Eclipse the entire time–and was upset that my wait was only an hour.

This was also the day I found out from my friends that there is actually a 5th book in the series–Midnight Sun–and that this book is a re-telling of Twilight , but from another character’s perspective! Apparently it was leaked online before the author finished it, so she’s put the book on-hold indefinitely. Her partial draft; however, is available on her website…which led me to pouring over her website www.stepheniemeyer.com reading all about the writing of Twilight.

Only the Election could tear me away from my precious books, so I enjoyed Tuesday night with my friend Beth, watching CNN and talking–politics? Nope. Twilight. When I bumped my glass but caught it before it spilled and exclaimed wide-eyed, “Did you just see my vampire reflexes there??” I was certain she was going to commit me.

Wednesday: Decided I couldn’t wait to read the first story from Edward’s perspective, so I put Eclipse on hold and started Midnight Sun.

Today
Which brings us to today. I’m fully engrossed in Midnight Sun–so much so that I’m questioning if sleeping, eating, and earning a living are really priorities in my life right now. (I haven’t even watched last week’s Grey’s Anatomy yet–now that should tell you something people.)

So I’m publishing this post (without proofreading it–who has time for proofreading when Edward it waiting??) to let you all know I’m still alive. And I will someday go back to being a good blogger, reader, commenter, etc. In the meantime, you can find me in Forks.

Hello! First time commenter, long time reader. I was a MKE knottie back in your day (I was married in 2003 as well).

Anyway, wanted to get in on the Twilight lovefest. A friend introduced me to the series when BD came out, and I was immediately hooked. They are fantastic!

FYI, the movie Twilight is being released in 2 weeks! 11/21. I am so going to the midnight showing at the Majestic in Waukesha!

Have fun with the rest of the series. It only get better!

    Team Edward!

I’ve never commented before, but since I’ve lived such a similar life over the past week, I guess now’s my time to come out of hiding. This will make you feel better. Here has been my life over the last week:

Last Wednesday – Out with a Friend and decided to grab the book at the bookstore so I could read it before the movie came out. Read a few chapters before bed.

Thursday – picked the book back up and read for a bit that night. Really wanted to finsh, but I was tired and somehow had temporary control over my OCD.

Friday – Woke up extra early and read for a half hour before going to work. Finished the book AT WORK. I am a horrible employee – I kept pulling the book out and reading a few pages at a time until I finished. Couldn’t stop there so I started reading the book again.

Saturday – Finished reading the book for the second time that morning. Went to Target to get groceries and the book literally FELL into my cart. Came home and read book 2. Finished it that afternoon and read my favorite parts again (couldn’t bring myself to read most of the middle again – was not a big fan of Jabob at that point)

Sunday – I had plans all day so I thought that would give me the break I needed. Wrong. On the way home I ran to Target and bought the last two books. Why bother trying to control myself? Clearly it won’t work. Read from 4:30 – 2am. Finished the 3rd book and started the 4th.

Monday – Actually called in sick to finish reading 4th book. As mentioned previously, I’m a horrible employee.

Tuesday – Read Midnight Sun online and a few of the outtakes. Started reading book 3 again.

Wednesday – read the rest of the outtakes online and finished book 3 for the second time.

Thursday – Started reading book 4. I promised myself that this is it, once I finish book 4 for the second time i will put them on the book shelf and step away before I end up divorced.

I’ve also watched the trailer for the movie like 20 times. They should put a disclaimer on the cover warning readers that they will instantly turn into a crazy teenager again.

I am pathetic, but I can live with it! I promise you i am normal so now worries that a crazy woman is reading your blog. I live in the Madison area too, so maybe I’ll see you at the theater later this month!

    Hilarious,

Thanks for letting me know there is a fifth. I still have to read 3 and 4 but I could definately read Edwards perspective before those.

    Take care,
    Lisa

My evil plan worked! YES! And don’t worry, everything becomes Twilight inspired.

    Volvos – Edward
    Rain – Edward
    Hair – Edward
    Dog – Jacob
    Emo – Bella
    Husband – Edward

It’s ridiculous! And awesome, I bought the soundtrack yesterday and am sooo excited for the movie! Shit I should come to Madison! You’re welcome Beth, can’t wait to have another Twilight whore!

OK, because of this post, I have now started reading Twilight again at work. Here is a pdf file of the book. The font is a bit annoying, but I love that I can have it open and it looks like I’m working!

Best. Books. Ever. And, I totally thought I was above starting them. Breaking Dawn is utterly amazing and my absolute favorite book in the series. Although, I’ve come to realize that whether you love it or not has to do with whether you’re on Team Edward or Team Jacob :). Have fun!

I started reading a week ago, while it is a super fast read, I have very little time to read it, so I’ve been cramming in a few pages every moment I get, I can’t put it down. I even found myself being wide awake an hour early and getting up to grab the book the other day. I can’t believe how much this teenage cheese is getting to me!

Now you’re gonna have to come visit Washington. Forks is apparently overrun with tourists.

I’m sold too. I’ve been reading about the movie in EW, but now I’ll have to read the books. I may have to send my husband and kiddo away for a few days so that I can do it properly.

    Your post is super funny.

OMG I love that series! I finished it a while ago and couldn’t put it down. I picked up Twilight on a whim to take on our weeklong vacation to Canada. I finished the book in two days and was so upset that I was stuck on an island in the middle of nowhere and couldn’t pick up the second book! We stopped at every possible store on the way back and I finally found one copy of New Moon to read on the way home.

I can’t wait for the movie but I think I’m already disappointed in their Edward choice. : (

I just started Twilight last night. I’m only a chapter and a half in, but I hope to get some quality reading time in tonight. I went ahead and bought New Moon as well. I was going to check the books out from the library, but there was a crazy long waiting list– over 150!

YES! I’m so happy to hear (er, read) that I am not the only non-teeny bopper out there obsessed with this series!! I’m almost done with Breaking Dawn (the 4th book) and while I’m already beginning to mourn the story being over, I’m looking forward to getting my life back to normal…and re-reading them all again.

And I’m SO EXCITED for the movie–hell yes I’ll be there!!
