Kate’s First Day of 4K

Kate is officially a student!

Our sweet baby girl had her first day of 4K today, but no need to pass the Xanax (yet). We are very lucky that Kate’s daycare center is a certified 4K site so she is staying there for her first year of formal education. Same building, same teacher, same classroom, same kids!  Her new school schedule is four days per week (Tuesday-Friday) so I’m thrilled that we’ll still get our Mondays (“Momdays”) together.  Wednesdays used to be “Grandma Day” for Kate, so sadly that will be cut short now, but Grandma Pam still plans to pick Kate up after school on Wednesdays so they can spend the afternoon together.

All-in-all, this should be a super smooth transition for her!  So far it’s barely a blip on her radar, but she did humor me this morning by letting me take “first day of school” pics – although I’m pretty sure in her mind these were “first day of leg hatches” pictures.

(That’s what she calls leg warmers.)

Kate also humored me by letting me interview her last night at bedtime.  Here’s the scoop on our little 4-year-old’s world as she sees it, the night before her first day of 4K:

Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: A blogger and a writer.

Q: What are you most excited about for 4K?
A: Meeting all my friends. New ones and the same ones.

Q: Who is your best friend?
A: Gwen and Bella, and my mom and dad, and my whole family.

Q: What is your favorite book?
A: All my books.

Q: What is your favorite color?
A: Purple and pink and red. Actually, I like all the colors.

Q: What is your favorite game?
A: Candyland.

Q: What is your favorite thing to eat for lunch?
A: Tortilla with butter, and crackers and cheese.

Q: What is your favorite song?
A: Happy Birthday song.

Q: What is something you really like?
A: My family and everybody I love.

Q: What is something you really don’t like?
A: When people are sad. I will always want to make them happy.

Q: If you could have one wish granted, what would it be?
A: To have more wishes.

Q: If you could have any super power what would it be?
A: Ice powers, and fire meatball powers.

Q: What is your favorite thing about yourself?
A: My birthday and my whole body.

Q: What is one thing you really want to do this year?
A: I really want it to snow.

Q: What is something you’re the best at?
A: Jump-roping.

Q: What do you love to learn about?
A: Chalkboards, lamps…and anything!

Q: Is there anything else about you that you want me to know?
A: I like to read books a lot, and my most thing I like to do is stay with my family and play all day.

Happy first day of school, you amazing girl.  Go show ’em what you’re made of.

Thank you so much, Ida! She’s growing up so quickly. And you’re right, she totally sounds like a little adult! I often forget she’s 4. Slow down, little girl.
