Here is the recipe I used for my homemade foaming hand soap, along with my affiliate links for purchasing materials:

Homemade Foaming Hand Soap
1/3 cup unscented Liquid Castile Soap
10-12 drops of Young Living Thieves Essential Oil*
Distilled Water
Foaming Hand Soap Dispenser

Combine castile soap and oil, and then fill soap dispenser the rest of the way with water.  That’s all there is to it!

Do you know the final cost of these?

The cost will vary based on the sizes of Thieves and castile soap you purchase with buying the larger sizes (and buying your essential oils wholesale versus retail) keeping your costs down.

It looks as though you are using a plastic container. Do the oils (lemon) not destroy the plastic bottle?

Great question, Belinda! I use a plastic container for mine, but there are some glass foaming hand soap contender options in that Amazon link I included in my post. I’ve heard lemon should only be used with glass but I do not use lemon in this recipe – only Thieves, and so far there have been no issues.

Does it matter what size dispenser is used?

No, it doesn’t. You can adjust the recipe (more or less soap and essential oils) as needed depending on your dispenser size. Mine is 10 ounces and I’d say this recipe is fine for dispensers anywhere from 8-12 oz.

Is there a reason for using Distilled water over just tap water?

I have read before that tap water can have impurities in it that’s can impact the soap. Example if you have hard water it may not suds as well, or is your water has salt deposits you may see things floating in your soap from it.

I’ve used the Castile soup before but it dries my hands out. I love Thieves and want to try this. Do you have any suggestions?

I use castile soap because it’s plant-based and all-natural, but really any kind of liquid soap should work for you, Kelly. Good luck!
