My Spice Cupboard

June 19, 2008 By Dusty Rogers 6 Comments

Time for another organization post–this time it’s my spices. This little cupboard is just to the right of our stove so it’s a perfect location for spices. However, it’s narrow and deep, and wasn’t convenient to find what I was looking for.

So I decided to paint the inside of the cupboard door with magnetic paint (it took several coats to get the magnetization strong enough). I then bought little magnetic spice tins at Bed Bath & Beyond and made labels for them on my computer. I now have my most frequently used spices right on the door–so convenient! I also added a small lazy susan turntable on the middle shelf for my lesser-used spices, making them even easier to find.

I always loved this part of your bio on the nest! I really need to do this too, but I am too lazy!

I always loved this, too. I look at your bio, feel inspired to organize my own mess, get about half way through the project and remember that I’m not really an organizing kind of girl. You must have it in your blood.

How many coats of magnetic paint did you end up using? I’m on my 3rd coat and I’m finding it’s still not strong enough.

Hi Michelle–I don’t remember specifically, but I know it was A LOT. Like maybe 10? And be sure to stir up the quart frequently. I think all the “magnetization” stuff sinks to the bottom. You have to keep it stirred to make sure it comes to the top. Good luck!
