All Things Loved In December

December 31, 2008 By Dusty Rogers 15 Comments

The Vinturi Wine Aerator I received as a gift from my friend Kelly. “The simple act of pouring wine through the aerator increases pressure as you pour, drawing in and mixing just the right amount of air to help wines open up to their full potential.” In addition to making a fun wizzing sound as you pour, it also produces results similar to 1½ hours of decanting. I think it’s safe to say this has changed my life.

These adorable and oh-so-cozy Sherpa-Trim Slipper Boots from Old Navy. I love them so much I’ve actually changed my mind about leaving the house a few times because I couldn’t bear to take them off. Believe me when I tell you–these slippers are the cat’s pajamas!

Tequila Gimlets. I had a serious craving for tequila earlier this month, but didn’t want a margarita. G suggested I just order a shot of tequila to tip back–but I’m not Meredith, and this isn’t Grey’s. So until Sandra Oh magically appears on the barstool to my right, I decided this grown woman should just say no to shots. And then it hit me–I could order a gimlet, only with tequila instead of vodka or gin! YES! And to really up the class factor, I ordered it “up” in a martini glass. (This is how not-so-“dark & twisty” girls enjoy tequila.) Since that order, I cannot stop drinking them! In fact, my mouth is watering right now just typing this. Luckily Santa (and by Santa, I mean G) put a nice big bottle of tequila in my Chrismas stocking this month. Now that’s my kind of Santa!

Sephora by OPI Nail Color Drying Drops. Just a drop leaves your nails dry to the touch in 1 minute, and completely dry in 5. Up to this point I’ve been using OPI’s RapiDry Top Coat polish, but half-way through the bottle it gets all thick and gunky, and painting it on has messed up my nail color a time or two. So far I’m loving these drops–much easier to manage than the brush!

This next December love cracked me up! I got a bottle of Vampire Wine from my friend Jill–a teaser turned convert when it came to my Twilight obsession. She saw this in the store and couldn’t resist picking me up a bottle. Now I’m no Cullen, but drinking my vampire wine I feel like I could be.

And one of my favorite Christmas presents this year was without question Sex and the City–The Complete Series! I got this fabulous gift from my fabulous in-laws and have been glued to my DVD player since Christmas. Love it!

Now I realize 3 of my 6 December loves are alcohol-related, but that just means it was an especially good month, right?

If anyone says you drink too much, just tell them that you are drinking my share too (I’m teetotal) – see, you’re doing a service! Else my share would simply go to waste. How kind of you!

Ok, the alcohol factors in your post forced me to write! You are my inspiration…I love your blog and frankly, I”ll follow you straight to Betty Ford if I have to!

A girl not ashamed to drink (and who knows her limits) is my kind of girl! Plus, my cardiologist wrote on a prescription pad that I am to drink one glass of wine every day – red or white! Every day! Sometimes its almost a chore – can you believe that?!?!?!

So, cheers to a great new year!
    Your newest fan!

Hi everyone–thanks so much for your comments!

@Cara–your comment cracked me up, lol! Thanks for writing, and I’m happy to have you as a fan. When we have to check into Betty Ford together I’ll bring the tequila, you bring the lime. And, uh–can you recommend your doc for me? S/he sounds like my kind of MD!

We heart you, D, alcohol-related loves and all!

There’s vampire wine?! If it brings me a step closer to pretending I’m a Cullen, pour me a glass, please.

Holy cow that aerator is awesome! I’ve never seen one of those before, but I just got a decanter for Christmas. Awesome, thanks for sharing that!

Sadly, you do not want to have to go to my cardiologist. He’s here in Denver and I only found him when I was diagnosed with heart failure at 6 months preggo with my son! Scary time! All is well and my heart just has a hole in it that got really stressed with my “advanced maternal age” pregnancy at 36! Yes, I’m an old fart on here….

But, I went to college in Wisconsin and I love your WI references and living vicariously thru you the young, no kids, hip chick lifestyle! keep up the great work!

Love this list! That quick dry nail stuff really works and is amazing. I must go to Total Wine to look for the Vampire wine. I love Twilight! I have been so busy and it’s taking forever to get through the last book.

@Cara–OMG, that’s so scary! And 36 is young! I’m so happy to hear you’re doing well now–good for you. Must be the merlot!

Where did you go to college in WI? And what in the world made you leave WI?? Couldn’t have been the -20 degree weather or the 6′ tall snow banks!

Wine aerators are awesome. I tried a wine poured with and without being aerated and it’s crazy how you can taste the difference!

And now I’ve got to keep my eyes out for the Vampire wine!
