Outfit of the Day

January 28, 2009 By Dusty Rogers 24 Comments

I’ve been receiving reader requests over the past couple of months, asking me to show some of my favorite winter outfits. But to be honest–I’ve kind of been ignoring them.

Now before you unsubscribe, please hear me out! I had my reasons. The first one being that on most winter days you’ll find me in jeans, a turtleneck or crew neck sweater, and high-heeled boots. Nothing too exciting or especially blogworthy. Now I do have some winter outfits that break my jeans & a sweater mold, but the thought of doing a large post of my favorite outfits (like the one I did last summer) was very overwhelming. That’s A LOT of self-timer action with the good old camera and A LOT of smiling. Not that I’m not a happy smiley person, mind you, but the cheeks get sore after a bit.

So here’s what I think I’ll do–and hopefully it will make everyone happy (you, me, my cheeks, and my camera). On those days that I do make an effort, I’ll try to remember to snap a couple pics to post. Here’s an example…

This is what I wore yesterday for work and a lunch with my friends Beth and Elise:

Dark Jeans–GAP ($30 on clearance)
Tweed Vest–GAP ($10 on clearance)
Ivory Cardigan–Old Navy ($5 on clearance)
Burgundy Tank–Express
Tan Suede Stiletto Boots–DSW

I love this vest–and I can’t believe how cheap I got it for! I think it was originally $60 and I only paid $10–gotta love that. I pretty much have no waist, but this vest has such a great shape and structure that it gives me one.

So that’s what an “outfit of the day” post from me might look like. How does that sound? And can we can all agree that I don’t need to be smiling–or even necessarily looking at the camera? Or possibly even crop my head out of the picture entirely if I so choose? Do we have a deal?

And PS–please keep the reader requests coming! I really love hearing from you all and am happy to help out when I can!

    Great idea.

And, the moral of the story is that you have more style in your pinky than I have at all. Love the outfit.

That’s okay though…. I can learn from you!

I love it….Bryn got me hooked on What I Wore…gives me new ways to look at pieces I already own. I get into a clothing rut very easily and don’t wear half the things in my closet. Love the vest!! I don’t really have a waist either..I’ve always referred to my figure as sausage-like. Not the most flattering comparison but it works.

I love this outfit! Very stylish and put together. Your haircut is also sooo cute. My hairstyle is in a short bob that’s longer in the front and somewhat shorter in the back. If you dont mind my asking is your style one length in the back or stacked? Im trying to grow mine out to a style like yours. Im in those growing out pains! ugh Anyway, btw… I also love your blog and your home decorating style is awesome!! Thx in advance!

We have a deal. I so need fashion inspiration. As a SAHM I tend to throw on old jeans, t-shirt and a cardigan. Why bother when I am just home all day – and when I do go out, I have a coat on. I only really make an effort once a week when I go to church, or if I’m meeting friends (sadly, not often enough). Last Saturday I made an effort when going to visit a friend and Daniel was all, “Why are you dressed like for church?” :oP I guess I should make an effort for him.

Cuuute vest! I’ve been scared to try one, but you’ve moved me in the right direction.

And the heels – you live in WI. It’s winter. Do you worry that you’ll shatter your ankle? I don’t know if I would be capable of wearing heels on ice – maybe you’re more graceful than me. I do break bones standing up from a chair, afterall. I’ll keep both heels firmly planted on the ground until further instruction.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for doing this, I thought you had forgot :)I look forward to seeing more of your outfits soon. Love this one, I have wanted to try a vest, but my midsection is a little to pudgy at the moment I think, but I might give it a try. By the way did you take a look at QVC for the DB bags?

Thanks everyone! I’m happy to hear we can come to a compromise that makes us all happy! šŸ˜‰

@queenbee–Nope, didn’t forget! Just procrastinated a bit. Thanks for your patience! And I haven’t checked out that site yet, but will the next time I’m in the market for a bag–thanks!

@Danielle–thank you! The polish is Rimmel Lasting Finish in Russet Flame. It’s a great shade of red that’s not too flashy, which I like. And it stays on FOREVER! My manicure was 3 days old when this picture was taken and the finish was still perfect. In fact–I still have it on (5 days) and I’m just now starting to get a couple teeny chips on the ends. It’s pretty good stuff.

@Christy–thanks for your sweet compliments! And to answer your question–my hair is slightly shorter in the back, and slightly stacked. I’m getting it cut again next week and plan to go even shorter and more stacked in the back. HTH! And good luck with growing your hair out! I know what a PITA that can be!

@Emily–no ankle breaking yet! *knock on wood* Yep–I’m a heels girl. Can’t break myself of it–even in winter. But you know–sometimes those stiletto heels come in handy when it’s icy out! They’re like little ice picks on my heels! šŸ˜€

I think that this is a brilliant idea, and your outfit is too cute. I wish I was tiny enough to wear all those layers without looking like a snowman! I love the vest, and the boots. Thanks for sharing.
