Sweater Wine Bottle Cover

November 5, 2014 By Dusty Rogers 10 Comments

Because sometimes wine just needs a cozy sweater, too...try this easy DIY Wine Bottle Cover made from the sleeve of a sweater. Makes a wonderful hostess or housewarming gift! | www.allthingsgd.com #wine #gift #hostessgift #housewarminggift #repurpsed #upcycle

The best ideas involve a bottle of wine, wouldn’t you agree?

Sometimes drinking it. Sometimes looking at it.  Sometimes both.

On this particular occasion it was both.

I was working on my recent DIY Sweater Wreath with a bottle of red nearby keeping me all warm and toasty.  I cut the sleeves off of the old cable knit sweater I was using to make my wreath and laid to them to the side.  I didn’t need them for my wreath but knew I’d find something to do with them at some point.

I love me some cable knit.

And I’m not the only one.

Alright, fine – maybe it was the wine in me, but I’m pretty sure I saw that bottle of wine inch a little bit closer to that discarded cable knit, just hoping to cozy up to it.  I looked at those two loves in my life, hanging out on the counter getting to know each other, and thought:

Oh yeah.  It’s on.

I knew I had to bring them together and a DIY Sweater Wine Bottle Cover was the perfect – and incredibly easy solution.  I simply hand-sewed a straight stitch around the opening of the cut side of my sleeve, pulled it tight to close it onto itself to meet together in the center, and knotted it to secure.

Then I placed the wine bottle into the sleeve and folded down the top:

To give it a little something extra I inserted screw eyes into the tops of two wine corks and tied them around the wine bottle cover with yarn.

Hey Dusty girl!! I keep seeing you around but have never had a chance to say “Hi” really after we left Haven. Cute idea! I was at the thrift store yesterday and was checking out the sweater section and wanted some cute ideas on what to do with them. Now I’ve got a new idea :) Thanks for that! Pinning for you 😉

Hi Serena, so wonderful to hear from you! Yes, hoard all those cable knits – they’re THE BEST! Have fun giving your wine bottles a sweater hug this winter, and I hope to see you again in the summer!
