My Summer Vacation–Day 6

July 4, 2008 By Dusty Rogers 1 Comment

Day 6 of my summer vacation was a busy one. It started off a little rough thanks to my frenemy Miller Lite, but hey–days off are made for sleeping in, right? The afternoon was spent running (Goal D?? Anyone?) tons of errands. I definitely shopped my ass off (Goal C) although it wasn’t for shoes, it was for our 3rd annual 4th of July party. I spent at least 2 hours at Sam’s Club. One hour actually doing the grocery shopping I went there to do, and the other hour circling the various sampling stations, acting like I was really interested in ham (for the 3rd time in 10 mins) just so I could get another bite of cheesecake. And it was thanks to the free and unlimited sampling at Sam’s Club that I actually tried sushi for the first time! And it didn’t kill me, like I was sure it would. I actually liked it. But just in case I didn’t, my back-up plan was to run over to the cheese sampling station and load my mouth up with those delicious cheddar cubes to get rid of the sushi taste.

And speaking of cheese–this has gotta be something you’ll only see in Wisconsin. This lady (dressed in a cow suit, no less) was carving a…mural?…of Bucky Badger out of a 5,000lb block of cheddar cheese, right there in the middle of Sam’s Club. I feigned an interest long enough to eat 3 (okay 8) squares of cheese, but had to head back over to the cinnamon roll samples once she started in on how the cheese “speaks” to her. I knew this was something you had to see to believe, so I went back just to get a picture. And eat more cheese.

Unfortunately when I went back for a picture the lady was no longer sitting at her stool cheese carving. But the stalkarazzi in me managed to catch a shot of her anyway–see the cow tail hanging down in back?

And I know you were dying for a close-up, so here it is. Sooo cheesy (you know it had to be said).

Back to the goals–after Sam’s Club, I went to my local grocery store to get the rest of the items on my list, and also purchased 13 lbs of pre-bagged, pre-chosen food for a local food pantry (Goal E).

And one more home project accomplished–inspired by my friend Lisa, who hung assorted lanterns from the ceiling beams of her backyard arbor, I wanted to hang some kind of luminary from the bottom of our upper deck, over our patio. I stopped by Pier 1 and found this fabulous outdoor candelabra on clearance. Even G loves it!

And last, but not least, to keep the bender (Goal F) going, I had a Pomegranate Smirnoff Ice while updating my blog (Goal G) at the end of the day. Almost all the goals (if you give me the “running”) were touched on in Day 6!
