A Week in My Life: Wednesday

March 23, 2011 By Dusty Rogers 16 Comments

Before we dive in to a Wednesday day in my life, I want to let you know I hear you loud and clear that you’d like me to share some of my recipes for Kate’s food.  I’m currently pulling them together and will be posting them soon–stay tuned!5:30am:  Alarm goes off.  I get out of bed to workout but my ankle hurts so bad I can barely make it to the bathroom without limping.  I hurt it playing volleyball on Monday night, and I think my workout last night may have made things worse.  I decide getting on the elliptical is probably not a good idea this morning, and an extra hour of sleep sounds like a much much better one.
6:30am:  I hear that Kate’s awake, and she’s in a great mood as I get her out of the crib.  We sit in the rocking chair and read a book while she drinks milk from her sippy cup.  After I change her diaper we go downstairs for some playtime.
7:00am:  G wakes up and comes downstairs to take over with Kate so I can go upstairs and get ready for work.  Wednesdays are usually the days Grandma Pam (G’s mom) comes to our house to watch Kate, but she’s out of town so G has arranged to work from home.  I can hear Kate fussing while I’m trying to get ready, so I go back downstairs and try to help out.
7:30am:  Kate is still being fussy, but it’s a weird fussing, and I’m not sure what it is she’s trying to tell us she wants.  Going to the fridge seems to make her happy but when I offer her a sippy of milk from the fridge she bats it away.  I put it back, close the fridge door, and she gets even more upset.  She doesn’t usually eat breakfast for another 30-45 minutes but I think she’s trying to tell us she’s hungry so I put her in her highchair and sure enough that was it.  I get her started on breakfast (oatmeal with applesauce, banana slices, and Puffs) and then G takes over so I can finish getting ready for work.
7:45am:  I should have been out the door 15 minutes ago, so I toss my makeup in my purse and decide to do it in the car (while stopped safely at red lights, of course).  I kiss Kate and G goodbye and I’m on my way.
8:15am:  I arrive at work and start doing work things.
Here I am at work (note the necessary turtleneck!!):
Just one peace sign short of a Facebook profile pic.
Here’s my computer screen:
It’s amazing I get any work done.

And my weekly planner:

Not much scheduled for the day, but still plenty to do!
G emails me throughout the day with updates on how Kate is doing, and at snack time he sends me this picture text:
So cute!
I always have an easier time being at work on Wednesdays when I know Kate is home with Grandma Pam (or in this case, G).5:15pm:  Home from work!  I’m so excited to see Kate and catch up with G on how their day went.  Afterwards, G heads to the gym while I feed Kate dinner (the last of my bland chicken noodle soup, and an apple plum bar for dessert).  At the end of dinner Kate discovers her bib pocket for the first time and seems a million times more excited to eat from her bib than she was eating from her tray:
After dinner Kate and I listen to music and dance and play.
6:15pm:  It’s a bath night for Kate so we start her bedtime routine a little early.  I give her a bath, get her dressed and ready for bed, then we read a book, say our prayers, and she’s down for the night shortly after 6:30pm.
6:40pm:  G comes home just in time for me to leave for my hair appointment (a cut and color).  I’m lucky that my stylist works late on Wednesday nights so I’m able to schedule my appointments for after Kate goes to bed—although shortly after Kate was born these late appointments led to me falling asleep while being shampooed!  The good news is I’m able to stay awake a little better these days (but just in case I drank a soda at lunch).
7pm:  I get settled into the hair chair and take this time to check my All Things G&D email account on my iPhone (something I don’t do nearly as often as I should) and one reader email in particular catches me by surprise!  Allow me to share an excerpt:
“I am a regular reader of your blog…when I saw one of YOUR pictures on an organizing website for a Colorado based organizer (where I know you don’t live). I was a little concerned.
The website is: [website address here]
Now it may be that they contacted you for permission, and if so, I’m sorry I jumped the gun.  But I hate to see someone who is a certified organizer basically taking credit for work that they didn’t do.  To me, it comes off on their site like its part of their portfolio when clearly you did it yourself.”
I clicked on the website link she provided, and sure enough, there it is–a picture of MY KITCHEN on the HOMEPAGE of this professional organizer’s website!
Here’s a screen shot:
Crazy, right?!
I emailed my reader back to thank her for pointing this out to me (thanks again Suzanne!), and after that I wasn’t quite sure how to handle it so I ran it past my Life Consultants (a.k.a. my hairdresser, and my Whores…er, I mean “my online friends”)—the general consensus being that I should sue their asses and send us all to Hawaii!
Only kidding. We all agreed it was probably just an honest mistake, so I’ll be emailing them and asking them to remove my kitchen photo and buy me a case of wine as retribution.
9:15pm:  I get home and get ready for bed.
9:30pm:  Head hits pillow.  Goodnight.
1:45am:  You know the drill.

Wow, I’m first! Thanks for the “Week in My Life” posts. They’re very cute. By the way, when do you and G eat? LOL
I’m hoping that website took your information/pictures down. Please keep us informed. Have a great day!

Hmm. It’s kind of flattering that your kitchen was featured on that website, but they really should have asked.

These recaps are awesome. I’m glad you figured out that Kate was fussy because she was hungry. I swear, the second you think you have a routine going, they go and switch it up on you. Way to roll with it!

I hope we get to see your hair on the Thursday post. :)

I do not mean to seem snarky but when do you cook and/or clean your home? And when did you guys have dinner together?

Moore Family is right–I drink my dinner, lol!

Many of you have hit the nail on the head when it comes to the dilemmas of parenting. When do I eat? Whenever I get the chance! When do I cook and clean? Hardly ever, lol!

Sometimes (like on this night) I try to eat a little something while Kate eats b/c I don’t like for her to eat alone (and sometimes it’s my only opportunity).

I typically cook 3-4 nights/week and G and I sit down and eat together on those nights after Kate goes to bed. The rest of the nights/week we “fend for ourselves” (which mostly means eating leftovers) b/c we’re typically too busy for a sit down meal. I have volleyball or G has basketball or I have a hair apt or I of us wants to go to the gym, etc. When I do cook I try to make big meals so the leftovers can last us a couple of days and that works well for us.

When it comes to cooking for Kate, I make big batches of food for her once/week that I can freeze and easily re-heat when our regular leftovers aren’t an option for her.

Cleaning? Forget about it. Something’s gotta give people, and for me that was it. My priorities (after Kate’s health and safety) are spending quality time together, and feeding her quality meals. This has turned out to mean that this OCD chick magically no longer cares if the house is a mess. I don’t! It’s amazingly freeing. Toys are usually scattered everywhere, the kitchen island doesn’t stay cleared off for longer than 5 minutes, I NEVER put my laundry away (okay, that was an issue even before Kate was born, lol), and more often than not I wait until company is coming before I bother scrubbing the toliet.

    And I’m a happy girl.

You also need to keep in mind that this is a week in MY life, but there are two adults in this household, and thank God for G. He almost exclusively handles the dishes, laundry, and floors, and that’s what keeps our house functioning on a somewhat sanitary level.

Great questions ladies! I hope this helps clear things up!

Oh yeah, regarding the photo thieves–so far they HAVE NOT removed my kitchen photo from their website and are continuing to pass off my kitchen as THEIR work. And I’ll tell you what–I’m turning into one little pissed off kitten over it.

I’ll be sure to keep you all posted!

I can not believe that about your kitchen!!! I clearly remember that picture from The Nest days, who knows who else is claiming your kitchen as thier own!!!

I once had someone steal a picture off my blog thatI took of a bunch of mini-vans and claimed as their own for a religious stories about Mom’s living in the suburbs. It was very strange but I never questioned them about it. Good for you for following through.

Enjoying the posts! I can so relate to all of them since Jillian and Kate are the same age. Looking forward to tomorrow!

I love that you chose the week you have a hickey on your neck to do your DITL.

I have many things to say about the “professional” organizer who stole your pics but I’ll refrain until it all gets resolved.

Miss you chica!!! You’re such a great mama to Miss Kate.

Okay first of all, I feel like I’m compelled to keep turning in to your blog this week to discover when the hickey will disappear.

Also for some reason I’m kinda excited that you’re posting Kate’s food recipes. Which is uuuuber creepy since I don’t actually have any children. But someday I will and then I will make them. It’s okay to start preparing now, right? That’s not at all weird! LOL

I decided that I was going to comment today and ask about Kate’s food when I saw what you posted at the top of the blog. Can’t wait to read what you got! Layken is 6 months old and will just be starting food, but I’d love to hear what works for you at this stage!
    Thanks!

Mungee has the same pocket bib as Kate. Somehow she managed to ruin the effectiveness of the velcro, so we don’t get to use that one anymore.

I can’t believe the “professional organizers” still have not removed your kitchen photo! Have you contacted a lawyer yet?

I’m happy to report that my kitchen picture has now been removed! To give this person the benefit of the doubt I purposefully left out identifying information from this blog post. I know a couple of people still found the site and linked to it in their comments to this post, and for the sake of my own piece of mind I’ve deleted those comments. This could have been a total misunderstanding on this company’s end and I’m not interested in bringing them bad press. I will say this though–an apology or even some level of courtesy in their response to me when I initially contacted them about this would have gone A LONG WAY in my book.

Anyway, it’s over and done now, so I ask my well-meaning readers who figured out which company this was to please cease and desist your harassment of them. I sincerely appreciate the support, but nobody needs to go to jail today. 😉
