My first experience sleeping in a tent was in junior high when a friend of mine had one set up in her yard. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
“How’d you get this awesome new tent?!” I asked.
“My aunt gave it to me,” she replied. “She and my uncle bought it for a camping trip and they almost got divorced over setting it up . . . so she gave it to me.”
Years later when G and I went on our first camping trip, I cheerfully sat on a stump drinking my can of Miller Lite while he and the boys set up the tents themselves.
I’m no fool.
Fast foward to my third trimester of pregnancy: We decided to keep a Pack N Play playard in our living room for Kate to nap in during those first few months and since I aspired to be a happily still married mom when I gave birth, I cheerfully sat on the couch drinking my can of V8 while G set up that contraption on his own.
Several months later we had our first overnight with Kate at a friend’s house, and the assembly of the Pack N Play was once again an issue. G’s usual technique (read: excessive use of force) didn’t seem to be working, so I quickly left the room (Chardonnay in hand) and summoned my mom friend Robyn to help G crack the Rubik’s cube that is the playard assembly.
The good news is they were eventually able to figure it out.

Um, this is seriously the best thing ever! We take LOTS of trips out of state and baby S sleeps in a pack n play that takes a good 15-20 minutes to set up – not so good when you’ve got a REALLY sleepy baby! I love this. Love love love.

Seriously, that is ridiculous. In the completely amazing sense of the word. We always have one side (always a different one) that won’t latch or unlatch, and this completely eliminates that problem.

We are strong proponents of the philosophy that “if we would do it without kids, then we will do it with them.” This means A LOT of travel for our family. After being stuck with a grungy crib from a hotel too many times we finally bought a pack-and-play in a print that was NOT my style. I then proceeded to catch my hand in it, trying to set it up and pinched the skin so badly that it still bears a mark. Ouch! This would be a great replacement -stylish, comfortable and easy to use. What a relief!
While we’ve never had an issue with our PnP, this looks MUCH easier to use. I would love to do it one quick step, practically one handed (with sleeping baby in other).
