Ahh…The Spa

November 29, 2008 By Dusty Rogers 14 Comments

Who still wants to know what G and I did for our 5 year anniversary?

Anyone?

Yeah, I figured–considering it was a month ago and I completely neglected blogging about it after slipping into my Twilight coma. Well I’m going to tell you about it now anyway because it’s my blog and I’m the boss.

Every year G and I celebrate our anniversary with some kind of getaway. Sometimes it’s a big vacation getaway and sometimes it’s a short/within driving distance getaway. This year we opted for the short/within driving distance getaway. I suggested going to Iowa and checking out the riverboat casinos (something G loves) and G suggested a weekend at a spa (something I love). We compromised and decided on the short drive to Wisconsin Dells where they have one of the top ranked spas in the country and Ho-Chunk casino. Our anniversary getaway was fantastic all-around, but what I really want to tell you about is the spa!

Ahhh…

Located on 26 acres of gorgeous wooded land, Sundara Inn and Spa was voted one of the “10 Most Romantic Spas in American” by Luxury SpaFinder Magazine, and the “#3 Favorite Spa Escape in America” by Good Morning America. And it was practically right in our backyard–how could we resist? We booked one of their Exclusive Suites for 3 relaxing days and enjoyed a couples massage, a facial (me) and a de-stressing treatment (him). Not to mention the very cool, self-guided Purifying Bath Ritual, which we did numerous times. In addition to amazing spa treatments, they also had a heated (which was good for us, because it was late October and pretty chilly) infinity edge pool with waterfalls and an outdoor fireplace. Another favorite of mine were the pitchers of water with sliced fruit they had nearly everywhere you turned (I loved the cucumber water–yum!). I need to start doing this at my house–it’ll be an instant spa flashback.

Our Exclusive Suite was amazing! It had a woodland view (we woke up to deer grazing outside our window both mornings), gas fireplace, luxurious king-size feather bed, and the biggest and best bathroom I’ve ever seen in my life! In addition to the Kohler shower system (with 7 adjustable shower heads), our bigger-than-my-living-room bathroom also had a 2 person Kohler Riverbath tub that you could set to simulate a waterfall, rolling river, or rapids. Very neat!

Here’s a picture of about half the bathroom:

And here’s me in the ginormous tub:

Cameras weren’t allowed outside the guest rooms, and strangely enough G and I didn’t think to take a couple’s picture on this trip, so those are the only pictures I have to share.

Okay, that’s a lie. I do have 2 more pics I suppose I could show you…

We took these at a western bar outside of the Dells–after a couple beers as I’m sure you can guess. Pic 1 is G posing with a table that just so happened to double as his jeans twin, and pic 2 is a statue of a cowboy holding a saddle at his side…which I decided to hop on. It’s not a “couple shot” but it’s the best I can do!

And that–in a nutshell–was our 5 year anniversary!

I forgot…how awesome does that scrub stuff smell in the ritual bath room? The older ladies at the party were smuggling it home in dixie cups, because the gift shop was fresh out!
