Too Busy To Pass Geometry??

March 11, 2009 By Dusty Rogers 27 Comments

Remember me? I used to be a blogger. Who posted on a regular basis. And kept up with my Google Reader. And personal hygiene. Ringing any bells? Well I’m still here–but unfortunately my real life has been getting in the way of my online one!

I have this re-occurring dream where I’m back in college. It’s the end of the semester, and I JUST REALIZE I have a geometry class on my schedule that I HAVEN’T BEEN TO SINCE THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL! By the time it hits me that I’ve completely forgotten an entire semester course, it’s too late to drop it or make any other kind of credit/no credit arrangements. I either need to beg and plead and work like a maniac to do a semester’s worth of work within the next few days to even have a CHANCE at passing–or I need to take the F.

Now, there are a lot of F-words in this straight-A student’s vocabulary, but “fail” isn’t one of them. My dream ends with me frantically contacting my professor and figuring out all the things I need to do.

The first time I had this dream was shortly after graduating college, and let me tell you–it’s pretty traumatic when you’re still in that “adjusting from your college schedule to a real world schedule” state of mind, to wake up and believe this is ACTUALLY HAPPENING. I had a few seconds of sheer terror before realizing I wasn’t even IN school anymore. And hell–is geometry even a college course??

Like I said–this is a re-occurring dream of mine, and it took me some time to realize I have it whenever I’m feeling particularly overloaded with tasks, stress, and responsibilities. It usually only visits me once every several months or so–maybe even closer to once a year. But lately I’ve been having this dream ALMOST NIGHTLY.

My point is, these past several weeks have been ridiculous! I just unpacked from my vacation–which I returned from over a week ago (but who’s counting?). And with the exception of while I was on vacation, I haven’t had a chance to workout at all (although I somehow find time to watch other people workout on The Biggest Loser–imagine that). My house is a disaster, my nails look like hell, I’ve turned to hitting up the Goodwill donation pile for clean clothes, I COULDN’T TELL YOU THE LAST TIME I DIDN’T FEEL LIKE I WAS RUNNING LATE TO SOMETHING, and as you can see–I’ve resorted to expressing myself in upper-case letters for effect.

But I didn’t come here to whine (okay, that’s a lie), or look for sympathy (mommy!), or go postal (is that still illegal?). I just wanted to quickly write to let you know I’m still alive–and to assure you I haven’t forgotten about my online life. Worried about that whole ‘out of sight, out of mind’ mentality? No need for concern. My dreams will remind me!

So bizarre – I have a very similar reoccurring dream. It’s not a specific class, but the same deal – I forget that I’m enrolled in class until the very end of the semester. And when we were getting married, the dream sorta morphed into a wedding – I didn’t realize I was getting married until the day of the wedding and was freaking out because none of my plans were in place.

So, I can relate…sounds like you need that vacation!!

Yep, I have a similar reoccurring dream as well. It’s usually an English class in high school.

Then I had one where I forget to show up for a shift at work… for a job that I haven’t worked at in over 6 years IRL.

Then there’s that one where my cats multiply and I can never tell the difference between the original ones and the cloned ones.

Yes, maybe I am crazy. lol

@Kristal–OMG, yes! This dream def. morphed into a wedding dream around the time of our wedding, too. Crazy! I got married in my wedding gown once, but in my mind I got married in my pajamas hundreds of times!

Just today I had a conversation with several coworkers about similar dreams we all have. Looks like it’s pretty common!

I have that dream all the time! It’s slightly different for each occasion, but it’s basically the same dream.

I have the same exact reocurring dream, except I’m on my way to the final when I realize I haven’t been to the class.

I did a lot of research because I really have this dream ALL THE TIME. I finally learned that it means that I feel unprepared for something in real life.

I often have “I’m totally unprepared for (insert humungously important event here)!!!” dreams. Wedding, tests, moving, etc. I’m an anxious person by nature. :) I have missed your posts as of late, but I completely understand- don’t worry!

I’m also a frequent school terror nightmare dreamer. Annoying.

And really, should school be that traumatizing?

Anyways — miss you, hope everything is ok! :beat

I have that same kind of dream too. It’s always college and always finals of some class I didn’t even remember I had. That’s no fun. They seem so real!

Wow I thought I was the only one with that dream! Sometimes, for added effect, I end up topless. In fact, it was two nights ago that I had a dream that I was in law school (I’m not a lawyer) and had forgotten a class completely for the whole semester. Apparently I had to review some cases (is that what you do in law school?) but my professor–a rather slutty litigator, it turns out–was more than accommodating. Weird.

Weird. I have never read your blog before, but I posted about having this (almost exact) same dream last night. One of my blog readers tipped me off that she had just read the same story on another blog, and she sent me over here. And of course, it’s eerily similar! So strange that so many people have this dream!

Dude. Can I just copy and paste this entire entry on my blog and claim it as my own?? I feel the same damn way these days.

PS- I have that same dream, too! And mine usually involve me not remembering where my locker is, or if I do, I forget the combination and all of my books are locked inside so I have no way to study.

Crazy! I don’t feel like such a weirdo after reading this and seeing all of the comments from others who have this same type of dream too. I have this same one all the time–where I am taking 4 or 5 classes in college and just forget all about one until the very end (it’s Physics or some kind of equally scary–for me at least–science class). Hahah–thanks for the post!

Oh this is crazy, look at all of your responses that all have the same similar dreams, and me too, I am one. I have the same one that Maria above mentioned…..College just should not be that traumatizing, I am so glad I am done with it! Lol, great post.

Wow! I take a perverse amount of comfort in knowing we all share similar night terrors.

@Stephanie & Beth–I have the dream about forgetting where my locker is and/or forgetting my locker combination, too–although not as often. And the crazy thing is–we didn’t even HAVE locks on our lockers when I was in school! I have no clue why I have stress dreams about forgetting my combination. Crazy!

@Erin–I love that you sometimes go topless for added effect. You over-achiever you! LMAO!

I have the exact same dream except mine is English class and I will not be able to graduate if I fail because it is the very last credit I need. Duchess is right on the analysis. A good friend he is a psychologist said it means feeling unprepared to finish one thing and move onto something new in your life… And even though she told me that and I thought, “Ah ha! Now I won’t have it anymore!” I still have it all the time.

Erin, I find crossing my arms strategically across my chest completely prevents all the other people in my dream from noticing that small detail about me–or at least it makes me feel better in my dream. :)

Ok, so I’ve been lurking for a while. However, I had this exact same dream a week before my last finals in college. Granted, the class wasn’t Geometry, it was some sort of dynamics class, but close enough. I’m sort of happy to hear you say that you have this dream, but to have it re-occur many times would be horrible. I was pretty sure my dream was real while I was dreaming, and it lasted about a week for me. Every night, same dream. I haven’t had it again since I graduated.

It makes me feel so much better that everyone else seems to have this same dream! I used to dream that dream before EVERY finals week all through college & grad school.
So I’m not crazy after all! :)
Hope life calms down for ya. I miss your posts! (no pressure though… just breathe) :)
