Short-Sleeved Sweater

September 21, 2009 By Dusty Rogers 19 Comments

Sweater: The Limited
Jeans: Old Navy Maternity
Wedges: Steve Madden
Pregnancy: 21 weeks

Short-sleeved sweaters are so tricky to wear! Normally you wear short sleeves when it’s warm out, and sweaters when it’s cold out–but short-sleeved sweaters like this one are such a contradiction! It needs to be the perfect “chilly but not too chilly” weather for me to wear it, so sadly it doesn’t see much action.

Anyone else share my frustration with short-sleeved sweaters?

I also stuggle with the short sleeve/quarte length sleeve. There’s only a few weeks out of the year you can actually comfortably wear them!

Actually, no, because I live in a climate where “winter” means 40 degrees! So short sleeved sweaters are perfect for me (with a light coat). I need to check out Old Navy Maternity!

Hi D, I bought a brown maternity sweater from the Gap and I live in the Midwest and am yet to wear it. It is a tricky time of year to wear those things, I am thinking in a few weeks it will get some use.

I wear a thin jersey top underneath mine in the winter so that I get more action from them!

I feel you. I tend to wear a long sleeve shirt underneath (usually black or white, whatever goes better with the color of the sweater), plus I’m always freezing!

I love to wear them when it’s cold outside, but I know I’ll be spending time indoors. They still make me feel snuggly without making me too warm. Holidays are an especially good time to wear them. Once you get inside and you’re surrounded by family a traditional sweater can make you VERY hot!

I agree 100%! I’ve got a few and they rarely get worn for that exact reason. (Love your blog by the way – I’m 12 weeks pregnant with my first and on the lookout for outfit ideas, so thanks!)

Oops, looks like somebody already pointed that sleeveless turtleneck point out! Alas, I am not alone! :)

i love sweaters of all sorts, but the short-sleeved ones do pose a quandry! on the not-so-cold winter days i often wear a long-sleeved tee underneath for a pop of colour.

you look great! those shoes are fab!

Yes!! And since I live in the Northeast, our seasons don’t allow for those to be worn comfortably very often. I feel your pain.

The short-sleeved sweater IS a tricky one. I saw a cute one over the weekend that buttoned up, so you could wear long sleeves underneath- but not all of them are like that!

I’m glad to find others share my frustration with short-sleeved sweaters. They’re too hot for summer and too cold for winter. I decided that I’m never buying another one because of that dilemma. Although…the long sleeved shirt underneath is kind of cute…

I think it looks great but I agree with the thought of summer and fall all in one shirt. :)

You are such a cute mama-to-be!

I actually am with the group that prefers the 3/4 sleeve sweater, but that’s really only because I have a tendency to push or roll my long sleeves up anyway. With 3/4 sleeve sweaters, they take care of that for me!

I completely agree. I find these sweaters are great for work, cause the office is always cold. Or for the mall / grocery shopping where you might be cold but sleeves tend to get in the way.

    Take care,
    Lisa

    P.S – how’s the nursery coming along?

You look great, and i hear on the short sleeve sweaters. However, my theory has always been fashion over function! LOL

Oh YES! Short-sleeved and sleeveless turtlenecks definitely need to make this list as well, good call ladies!

And I love the idea of wearing a long-sleeved top underneath the short-sleeved sweater. Thanks to those whos suggested that!

@Amber–Good point about the holidays, or big get-togethers. I always get overheated during those too.

@carey–Congrats on your pregnancy! So exciting!

@Lisa–The nursery is coming along slowly but surely. I had a lot of steam and got a lot done a few weeks ago, but haven’t done anything since. Maybe I’ll have time to work on it again this weekend. I can’t wait for it to be done!
