All Things Loved In November

November 30, 2009 By Dusty Rogers 16 Comments

1. Warm November weather! I’m pretty sure this Wisconsin November has been the warmest one of my lifetime. And while I should be concerned about that with global warming and all, I have to admit that for this year–and this year alone–I’m grateful for the unseasonably warm weather because I only have one maternity sweater and zero maternity coats.

2. Weeds.

G and I recently started watching this show, and we’re hooked! For those of you not familiar with it, the show is about a widowed housewife from an affluent California suburb who starts selling marijuana to make ends meet. We’re only in the middle of Season 2 (so no spoilers) and so far we’re loving it!

3. St. Ives Apricot Scrub.

I’ve used this product here and there since my teenage years, but never on a regular basis. Since getting pregnant, however, I’ve been dealing with bad skin for really the first time in my life. I now use this scrub on my face about 2-3 times per week and I’m definitely noticing improvement–and it smells fantastic!

4. The Baby Bargains book.

If you are pregnant with your first child, you need this book. I consider this book our baby bible when comes to navigating that crazy, pastel, and over-stuffed world of baby products. It reviews nearly everything you could ever need for a baby and tells you which brands and products are the best bang for your buck, and which ones are wastes of money. While it may seem overwhelming when you first crack the cover, it’s actually a very easy read. And besides–what’s more overwhelming than stepping into Babies R Us for the first time and trying to decide which of the 42,398 bottles to add to your registry? I read every chapter–highlighter in hand–and knew exactly where I was going to point that barcode scanner before I even walked into the store. I went from knowing almost nothing about baby products to feeling fairly well-versed on car seats, and swaddlers, and strollers. At the very least I learned what questions to ask, what to look for, and what to avoid. If you’re new to the baby world, I highly recommend this book. And be sure to get the latest edition! Baby products change almost as often as you’ll be changing diapers, so make sure you get the latest edition for the most up-to-date information and reviews.

5. My Mariah Carey Christmas CD.

Oh yes–it’s not even December yet, but I’m already in the Christmas spirit and my beloved Mariah Carey Christmas CD has been getting play time in my car for weeks now! Bring on December, and snow, and twinkle lights, and peppermint lattes, and Christmas carols–I’ve been waiting for you!

The warm fall has certainly gotten all of us Wisconsonites confused. I did enjoy it, until today – it’s 35 in Racine right now….poo!

btw – I’m going to check out Weeds soon, right now I’m breathlessly awaiting Sundays for new eps of DEXTER!

I, too, LOVED Baby Bargains…so helpful. Definitely consider grabbing their other books Baby 411, followed up Toddler 411. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve cracked them open with a worried mom question. Without fail, my answer is there. It has saved many an unnecessary doctor’s visit!

My husband got me hooked on Weeds. I think we’ve watched all but the current season.

If you finish Weeds, you should give Big Love a try, we love that one too.

    What year is that Mariah????
I second the Baby 411 book – I still reference it at 2am when I’m not sure what’s going on with Wyatt!

    Thanks for your comments everyone!

@Sarah–Yeah, we’re back to having cold weather here, too. :( Oh well, the warmth was nice while it lasted!

@Andrea–Thanks for the additional book recommendations. I’ll be sure to check those out!

@jbhat–Ha! Nope, no New Moon for this month’s list. But I sincerely hope I’ll be able to put Eclipse on my June 2010 list!

@E–That’s pretty much how we ended up giving and watching it. We don’t get Showtime or HBO or any of those premium cable channels, so we watch this through Netflix. This is the first premium cable series we’ve watched, so I have to admit it was a bit of a shock at first! It’s a little bit…raunchy?…to say the least. Probably not a big deal if you’re used to watching these kinds of series, but it did catch us off-guard, so I thought I should throw that warning out there for anyone else who’s considering checking it out.

@Kadi–Good to know, thanks! And that is some OLD SCHOOL Mariah, lol! I just googled it and it looks like it was released in 1994. My first version of this album was a cassette tape, lol!

Oh Mariah. I am usually totally with you on that – pulling out the xmas music post-Halloween but I am having such a hard time getting into xmas this year.

We just received the first *winter* snowfall (October didn’t count) so here’s hoping that I get over this dread.

PS – Boo. I sound like a Grinch. WHO AM I?
