I have so many pictures of the framing stage of our new home construction that I need to buy a new external hard drive just to store them all. It’s like those first time mom days when you take fifty-eleven-hundred photos of your new baby because she looks different every day. And from every angle! And because she’ll never make that exact same face again because tomorrow she’ll be ANOTHER DAY OLDER!
Yeah, it’s like that.
Except this time my baby is a house. [Related: I’m House Pregnant]
(I’m considering making a slideshow for her first birthday.)
The last time you saw the progress on our house it was just foundation. Next up? Time to slap some wood on that sucker!
Here’s a look at the framing of our lower level/basement. This picture was taken from our garage, looking toward the front of the house. (If you remember from our floor plan, our garage is positioned at a right angle to the house.)

See our neighbor’s house in the background? That’s the house G and I almost bought that led us to this lot! [Related: We’re Building a House]
This part of our lower level framed out is the entry to our basement from the garage. That section of concrete that juts out like an “L” is the surround for the staircase that leads from the garage to the basement. The top of the large framed out rectangle you see toward the center is the doorframe of the entrance to the lower level. This was something G really wanted, which I’m sure will be so convenient.

The majority of our lower level is below ground, with the exception of this section of the house. The insulated rectangle you see to the left is our front stoop, so what you’re looking at here is the front right side of the house. We’re building into a hill, so this front section (and the full right side) are the extent of our lower level exposure. There are four larger rectangles in this framework which will be windows for the lower level family room (can you spot them?) and one more window framed out in the back right corner of the house which will be the window for the guest bedroom.

The lower level framing was topped off with the base for our first floor, and I am so excited about this huge square you see below – that’s the cut-out for our square-shaped staircase! (Or “square-case” as we’ve been calling it.) This is one of our favorite features of our new home and we can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Okay so in the midst of my excitement I thought it would be fun to surprise the guys framing our house with a 6-pack of their favorite beer and Periscope it. For those of you unfamiliar with Periscope, it’s basically video broadcasting that people can watch live, ask questions, comment, etc. So, I pulled up to my lot with a 6-pack of Bud Light, and here’s what happened:

More on that tomorrow!
