Thank you all SO MUCH for all your well wishes in my pregnancy announcement post yesterday! You are all so sweet to share in our joy and I really look forward to sharing this experience with all of you! It was wonderful to hear from some of you for the first time. Congratulations to all my fellow soon-to-be (and current) mothers out there, and best wishes to those of you who are currently trying for a baby!
I have several pregnancy-related posts that I’ve written so far, and I’m excited to post them and share how things have been going. So while it may seem like “All Things Baby” around here while I catch you up over the next couple of weeks, I assure you that baby talk will not take over my blog and I will still be posting about all my regular topics. (Well, except for wine–those posts are on hiatus for a bit while I grow human life.)
I’ll get things started by answering questions from yesterday. Some of your questions will be answered in upcoming blog posts but there were a few that I haven’t written about yet, so here goes!
Q: Nursery Plans
A: You may be surprised to hear this, but I actually haven’t given much thought to the nursery yet! When we first moved into our current home I knew the room across from ours (currently the 4th bedroom/office) would be the baby’s room, so I painted it a gender-neutral cappuccino color (pictures under Our Home). I always thought I’d do a gender-neutral nursery and I was pretty proud of myself for planning ahead and painting long before we were even trying for a baby. Well now that I have loads of hormones pumping through my body, that plan has been thrown out the window! I definitely plan to do a gender-specific nursery now–I just need to find out what we’re having before I can start planning it! Which leads me to…
Q: Will you be finding out what you are having?
A: Yep! We tossed around the idea of not finding out in the very beginning, but that only lasted about a week. G was okay with either option, but I’m a planner and I just need to know. We find out next month and we’re so excited!
Q: Any idea if it’s a boy or a girl?
A: Nope, no idea yet! G tends to refer to the baby as “he” and I tend to refer to the baby as “she” so the one thing we do know is that one of us is right!
Q: Sobriety
A: Giving up my beloved booze has been a piece of cake! (Mmm…cake…) Sure there are times I wouldn’t mind a nice glass of wine (like the other night when I made shrimp scampi–which I always used to enjoy with a glass bottle of chardonnay) but I know it’s not an option right now, and that’s that. I’ve had a couple of non-alcoholic beers, but really I’m just fine with sticking with my water. I’ll have plenty of time to enjoy alcohol again after my pregnancy and nothing is more important to me than a having a healthy baby.
Oh! And for any pregnancy police out there checking my blog posts from late April/early May for signs of drinking I just wanted to make it clear that any drinking pictures posted during that time are photos that were actually taken before I was pregnant. This happened for two reasons: 1–Sometimes I have a stash of blog posts written weeks in advance and I set them to publish at a later date. And 2–I was hoping to throw off some of my friends who knew we were trying to conceive until I had a chance to tell them in person. Just wanted to make that clear in case anyone was wondering!
Answers to the rest of your questions are coming in future pregnancy posts–stay tuned! And thank you again for all your wonderful well-wishes!

Can’t wait to see your ideas for the nursery…this was one of my favorite things while I was pregnant…I’m a planner too, and I had to know b/c everything had to match!
I don’t even know you- but after finding out the good news…I went home and told my husband. He was confused and thought I had some mystery friend I hadn’t told him about…or that he had forgotten!
CONGRATULATIONS MOMMA!!
Your blog is such a nice treat to read!!

Were you guys TTC for awhile? Are you going to share your names? (you may have been asked this stuff already!!)
I’m a big wine drinker too and, although I thought getting through the summer was the hardest part (and then Christmas!) it really is easy to give it up. It’s like… not even an option =) Best of luck to you! Can’t wait to follow along in your journey!
Ohhh, so happy for you!!! Can’t wait to read more baby posts, written in your usual awesome style.
You won’t be able to drink any alcohol if you breastfeed the baby either. lol
It could be months and months before you get to enjoy your wine! But it’s good for the baby. Best of luck!
So happy for you! I have read your blog for a long while now, and this gets me even more excited to click on it every day! And this may make you laugh, but a friend told me that 1/2 glass of red wine will get things rolling towards the end without doing any harm to the baby. After 9 (10) months of incubating, I may just take her up on that.
Best wishes and I can’t wait to see more!
I’m so excited for you. I have been a loyal follower of your blog since your nesting days ( even thought I didn’t comment very often. I am also TTC so this is especially inspiring.
So fun! Can’t wait to find out more.
Missed yesterday’s post but wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS.
Great! So happy for you! :o)
Giving up my wine will be my biggest heartbreak….good luck with the next few months!!
Still super excited for you!
Just catching up…congrats! Can’t wait to hear about your pregnancy adventures!
I can’t wait to hear all about your pregnancy. I am also pregnant (10 weeks – due early Feb) and I had my son in January 07. It is a great time of year to have a baby! I am so excited to see your choice in not only nursery decor but DIAPER BAGS!
Congrats.
I agree that giving up wine and beer was no big thing. I thought I’d hate that part, but so far, it hasn’t bothered me at all.
Can’t wait to hear more about your pregnancy and I hope you’re feeling OK!
Just catching up!! I’m so excited to hear all about the nursery plans and your pregnancy! Congratulations
Congrats from a lurker! Oh and I wasn’t worried about the booze, I was worried about the electrical work:)
Congrats!
I was amazed how easy it was for me to give up coffee and booze – my 2 great loves. :-p My first beer & glass of wine post-pregnancy wasn’t even that great. And I totally became a light weight all over again. But that only lasted about a month!
I personally would care if it went all things baby around here, I kind of secretly want another baby but I was so damn sick during both pregancies that I just cant put my self and family through all that, so I would love to here about all your baby adventures, in place of my own.
OMG!!
So happy for you! Can’t wait to see what amazing ideas you come up with for the nursey and the stylish outfits you create as your budding body grows.
Take care,
Lisa
Ya know… someone told me that if you ask a mother to be what she thinks she’s having, boy or girl, that 9 times out of 10 she’s right. I felt like baby was a girl and she was. Maybe the fact you call the baby she is a sign! Hahaha!
Congrats again!! I can’t wait to read about your growing family!
Just wanted to let you know of a wine alternative while you are pregnant! It is called Dry Soda… I saw it on the Food Network station, there are several different flavors that you pair with food, just like wine! You should check it out!
i’m excited to hear baby talk! we’re a few years off from wanting/being ready to have a baby, but i love reading about it from others! my husband has to endure me talking about stragers and their babies like i know them!
Congratulations from another lurker!!
I think it’s okay for you to have wine after the baby is born, even if you are breastfeeding. Just not in copious amounts…the last think the mother of a newborn wants is a hangover. You’ll adjust just fine.
Congrats again!

so excited for you! And i can’t wait to see the fabulous nursery you will create.
@Ang–your comment cracked me up! Thank you so much for sharing in our joy! š
@Jenni–as you can see in today’s post, we were TTC for 7 months before we got our BFP. Lucky #7! We haven’t decided on names yet, but I’m leaning toward not sharing them until the baby is born and we decide on one. But we’ll see!
@Andrea–Ooh, I am very excited about the diaper bag selection! Although I have no clue what I should be looking for, so I’d love to hear any suggestions you have!
@Diamend–thanks for the suggestion. I’ll have to give that a try!
Thanks again everyone! It is really such a treat hearing from each of you!
I am 15 weeks along and when we told friends they all swore I was drinking within the last couple of weeks. TRUST ME i was NOT. I figured they would notice but apparently I’m that darn good. : )
Congrats.
I can’t wait for all things baby! I want to see growing belly pics and tons of nursery ideas!
Congratulations D!!!!! I am 16 weeks pg so I would love any maternity finds you have come across. I am still in that “in between” stage and it’s been challenging to say the east to find something cute to wear.
