Pregnancy: Week 23

September 15, 2009 By Dusty Rogers 17 Comments

September 7-September 13
I saw our baby’s kick for the first time this week! It was Monday night (the first day of week 23) and I was sitting on the couch watching TV and blogging. Our little girl was moving and kicking away as usual, but out of the corner of my eye I thought I actually saw my belly move from the strength of her kick. I immediately focused on that spot to see if it would happen again, and sure enough she soon let out two more big kicks and my belly bulged out with each one! It was so incredible!

This week our daughter is continuing to grow and she is currently the size of a small loaf of bread. (Mmm…and now I’m craving bread–disturbing, I know.) She should weigh a little over 1 pound right now, and beginning this week she will really start to pack on the pounds. Her weight should double over the next four weeks–and I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that that only holds true for her weight, not mine.

I’ve been worrying that she gets bored in there–just sitting in the same little womb all day long. No one to talk to. No online shopping. No reality TV. Look at her–just sitting there, biding her time:

Doesn’t she look kind of bored?

I’d love for her to have something to occupy her time like a crossword puzzle or an Etch A Sketch–but logistically that would be quite uncomfortable.

And speaking of uncomfortable–according to What to Expect When You’re Expecting, this is the week that I need to be on the look-out for skin tags–eek! So far I’ve managed to avoid these damn things, but I’m not out of the woods yet. Wish me luck!

Kick, baby, kick!!! Okay, maybe not, but it sounds like you’re enjoying the kicking thus far.

Just because she can’t see the TV doesn’t mean she isn’t enjoying it. I watched so much of The Office while I was pregnant that Ethan now dances every time he hears the intro music. No joke. It must bring back warm (and gooey?) memories for him.

Wait until she is a lot bigger and you watch your stomach move around. It’ll remind you of Alien. lol. Do you have a name picked out yet?

I only got skin tags with my boy! None of my girl pregnancies ever produced any! Hoping the same is true for you! Kick, girly, kick!

Happy week 23 – the viability point! Yeah! keep up the good work!

You could entertain her with music. I think my daughter used to dance in my belly. She would start kicking everytime I played a tune…or maybe she was begging me to change the station…hmmm….hehe.

I avoided skin tags but got that lovely pregnancy mask with my second pregnancy, ugh. At least with skin tags you can get them removed. Not so sure what to do about “the mask” though aside from cover-up.

See…I think my boys are never bored (kicking each otehr) but they probably envy her not having any wombmates! šŸ˜‰

I think you should expose her to all your favorite shows so that when she comes out you guys can watch them together. :-)

I’m lol-ing at “maybe you could swallow some crayons.” Too funny.

I used to worry that our girl–4 weeks tomorrow!–was bored in utero as well. But now I worry that maybe she misses her old water world sometimes. Can’t win. Don’t think about it too hard.

LOL @ Martinis! If those crayons were dipped in butter I just might consider it!

@Erin–That’s crazy! Maybe she’ll come out loving Grey’s Anatomy b/c I can’t wait for it to start! She will definitely be getting her fill.

@June–Yep, we have a name picked out, but we’ve decided to keep it under wraps until she is born.

@Carazy Mom–Sorry to hear about your skin tags w/your boys. :( I’m hoping it holds true that it’s a “boys only” thing! (At least for this preganncy. I may change my tune for the next one, heehe!)

@K*OS–I’ve heard about that pregnancy mask and am hoping to avoid that too. Sorry to hear it hit you. :( Is that something that will eventually go away?

@Andreina–That’s so sweet that your boys have each other for entertainment in there!

@jbhat–Awww, so you had a girl!! I’ve been wondering! Hope you’re both doing well!

Oh my gosh! TOO FUNNY! I LOL’ed!

The belly movements are the greatest. I spent the last part of my pregnancy in a sports bra around the house (SEXY!) just to watch baby movements. It’s CRAZY!

Also, I never heard about the skin tags! I also managed to avoid stretch marks, on the belly anyway.
But, I totally had the Jenny McCarthy “Oh my God, who’s ass is THAT?” moment… so I guess every battle has its scars! :) Here’s hoping you avoid the skin tags! HA!

@HG–“I guess every battle has its scars.” Oh my goodness–so true! I guess only time will tell what mine will be! And I love that you walked around in just your sports bra just so you could see the baby move, lol! Thanks for the idea–I’m totally going to steal it. Ever since I saw her move last week I can hardly keep my shirt down when I’m at home!

SO CUTE!!! She’ll be here before we know it! I’m sure the holidays are going to fly by and then…Hello BABY!
I always felt bad for the baby in the 7-8 month when they are just squished in there with no place to move – it really bothered me looking at the pictures of my squished baby, no room to stretch out!
