ATG&D Dream Home | Foundation

September 16, 2015 By Dusty Rogers 4 Comments

Construction on our new house has been underway, and it’s hard to believe I’m saying this, but it’s moving so fast!  It seems like I usually hear from people who’ve built that the process is slow and drags on longer than expected but that hasn’t been our experience at all so far.  Our builders – Classic Custom Homes of Waunakee – are ON IT and it’s been zipping by!

I was out of town when the foundation was poured, but had G visit our build site every day so our future home would know we still loved it.  Here are some of the pics he took for me.

The last time you saw our lot there was a great big hole in the ground [Related: ATG&D Dream Home | Breaking Ground], and next came this – the first outline of our home’s footprint!

See that little rectangle in front? It’s the very bottom of our home’s future front stoop. (Now everybody say “awww…”) I can’t wait to watch it grow!

I wish I had been there to see this part of it all – it looks like such a neat process!  These are all the forms, filled with concrete. Once the concrete is set, the forms are removed and we have our foundation.

For reference, the wooden plank below is propped up onto what will be the first stall of our garage (the stall closest to the house) so you can see how deep the foundation goes, and how much space will be filled back in with dirt. [Related: ATG&D Dream Home | Floor Plans]

The concrete is all set, the forms are removed, and we have our future basement!  The large square in front (at the bottom of the picture below) is the foundation for our future screened-in porch at the back of the house. Across from it, at the other end of the house is the “under stoop storage” which will serve as our family’s tornado room.  The opening that you see is the opening for the door, and inside is a small space with all concrete walls.

Another look at our new home’s foundation. This picture is taken from the back of our house, looking out toward our street.

That’s it for foundation. It may not be super glamorous, but it is super important. For like, walls and stuff.

So exciting, Dusty! I built my home when I was 25 and it is so scary, but so amazing. I wish you and Greg all the best on this journey and cannot wait to see it all come to life. Have fun!!

Thank you so much, Pam! I can’t imagine going through all this at 25 – good for you, girl!! I’m grateful we have two homes and 5 years of family living under our belts before taking this on. I’m hoping it helps w/decision making. There’s so much to consider!! Thank you so much for following along with us, Pam!

Ack! It seems like such an exciting (and I’m sure at times a teeeeeeeny bit stressful) experience. Just caught up on all you’ve been up to! What a year you’ve had!

Emily!! It’s so nice to hear from you! Thank you so much for stopping by. I’ve been trying to keep up with you via Instagram and you’ve certainly had some eventful years yourself! Doesn’t it seem like a lifetime ago when the only people we had to plan our homes (and lives) around were our “DHs”? Hope you all are well!
