Milk Glass Ring Holder

April 14, 2009 By Dusty Rogers 32 Comments

I frequently take my rings off while I’m in the kitchen and set them on the windowsill above the sink. Each time I do this I picture one of the rings dramatically falling into the sink and down the drain–and sometimes the garbage disposal comes into play for added effect. After 3 years of these daily panic attacks I decided a ring holder for the windowsill might be a good idea. Enter this adorable little milk glass pedestal I found at a thrift store for only $1.75–it’s perfect for the job!

So cute and tiny, it fits perfectly in the corner, and the bowl top is shallow enough that I can easily see my rings inside.

What do you use to hold your rings? Traditional ring holder? Something a little more unusual? Or are you still having daily panic attacks in your kitchen? (For reasons other than needing to do the dishes.)

Way to go girl! My grandmother had your exact scenario play out with a 3 carat, old mine cut ring that was her husband’s grandmother’s engagement ring. Turned on the disposal and it was ugly. Diamonds are forever, but they can get pretty beat up in a disposal!

Love the milk glass! I keep a container store ring dish on my kitchen windowsill, but the milk glass is lovely!

That is adorable. And maybe I am crazy, but I just keep my rings on.

I have a tiny little pewter platter with a little mouse perched on the edge of it. Got it free so I didn’t really get a say-so on the design. It does the job but isn’t nearly as cute as your milk glass.

DH and I went to one of those paint & pottery studios where he made me a glazed bowl in the shape of a clover to hold my rings. It sits on top of our microwave and I love it! I too have had those awful panick attack moments. My most dramatic dramatization has been the thought of forgetting to take off the ring, accidentally hitting my hand on the sink and watching the center stone fly out of it!

I keep mine in a little dish for soy sauce. I found it at the global bazaar at Target a few years ago. I had to snatch it up! But when I got home, I realized I don’t usually roll my own sushi… hmmm. So then it became my ring holder. And yes I have visions of my rings jumping into the sink all the time! So glad I am not alone.

I am one of those that has a panic attack if I have to take it off by the kitchen sink, but I generally don’t have my rings off for very long. In the bathroom, I use a votive candle holder.

What a great idea! I too take off my rings when I’m doing dishes/cooking/baking and worry that with the slip of a finger, I could lose one/both down the drain. I need to start looking for something simple & cute like your ring holder! Thanks for the idea!

I keep mine in a votive holder – I’ve got one in the bathroom, one in the bedroom, and one in the kitchen. But your little milk glass holder is way cuter!

I’ve been known to put my rings on top of our sugar container. They almost were eaten one day by the hubs, but that’s the only close call we’ve had thus far.

Much to the chagrin of Mr. CG, I often don’t wear my ring, cause I’m always painting, cleaning, or, well, you know, covering something with polyurethane. Sssshhhhh….. don’t tell. But my rings when off stay in little silver coated shell on my vanity.

Oh my gosh- I was having these attacks too. Then I finally remembered someone gave me this http://www.giftandwrap.co.uk/acatalog/info_26606a.html
has an engagement gift, and it had just been sitting in a box. Now it is sitting in with windowsill with my rings.

So glad to know I’m not alone.

Cute! I use this ring holder – in theory I should nail it to the cabinet to the left or right of my sink, but for now it sits on the window ledge over the sink.

I keep my wedding band box in the kitchen and toss my rings in that while working. It’s kept in a drawer so I always know where they are and don’t have to worry about it getting knocked off the counter, etc.

Love all these ring holder ideas!

@Cara–OMG, that made my stomach lurch. Your poor grandma!

@Emer–that’s my other ring-related fear. Eek! Maybe that’s why I hardly ever wear my rings?

@Julie & Kristal–I have a little glass votive holder in my bathroom for ring storage, too. Great minds think alike!

@Heidi–too funny! I’ve heard diamonds are high in fiber. No, that’s a lie. šŸ˜‰

I do the exact same thing and I have the exact same fear. I always take my wedding set off while working in the kitchen. But because of my fear of it falling down the drain or better yet the disposal, I lay it nicely on the counter, where I can see it. But then I start thinking about it getting lost while on the counter because it’s just so cluttered.

I think I need to take a leaf out of your booklet and look for a little dish especially for my rings.

I hardly EVER wear my rings when I’m at home..weird I know, but I feel like I can’t “do” anything with them on. So off they go as soon as I make my way to our bedroom when I’m home for the day. I have a crystal ring holder from Mikasa that sits on my dresser. If I DO have my rings on when I go to wash my hands or do dishes at the kitchen sink I put them in a little brown crock w/ a lid that I have sitting on my windowsill.

I love your milk glass dish though! So cute, and I adore milk glass!

I love the container. Great find.

I don’t ever take my rings off unless they go into my bedroom. I still keep them in the original ring box, inside of my jewelry box. OCD much?

I’m pretty good about it because I lose almost everything and I refuse to lose my rings. So, if I want to take them off, I have to go upstairs and put them away. I usually take off my rings when I change into house clothes, so they are usually off when we eat dinner at home, clean, etc.
