We have walls!
I loved watching the framing stage of our new home construction. It’s so interesting to see how everything goes up and gets put together, and before you know it you’ve got the bones of your new house in place! Yesterday I shared the start of our framing with the lower level, and now here’s a look at the exterior walls of our first floor going up.
See the walls along the left? The first section is our mudroom, which will also be the room we enter when we come into the house through the garage. The next section is the kitchen – that second cut out square will be the window over the kitchen sink. The double height wall in the back left corner of the house is our two-story living room, and the fireplace will be centered on that wall (between the two windows). I’m so excited to finally have a fireplace!!

One of my favorite parts of having our exterior walls in place is seeing exactly where our windows will be and what we’ll be looking out at. Below are the walls along the back of our home. The double-height wall to the left is the other corner of our two-story living room. We’re doing a bunch of windows on that wall to enjoy our view of the woods behind our home. Next to that is our dining room. There will be french doors in the center leading out to a screened in porch, with windows on each side of the french doors. At the far right is our master bedroom. There will be a window there as well, it just hasn’t been framed out yet.

Here’s another view. The dining room is on the far left in this picture, and to the right is our master bedroom, and master bathroom. See the up high rectangle cut out on the far right? That is where our walk-in shower will be. You can also see the large square cut out-on the floor in the center of house where our square-shaped staircase will be.

A view of the front of our house from the street:

More walls being added! The section in front outlined in white Tyvek wrap is G’s future office. To the right of that (the little square window) is the master bathroom. Look at all those trees peeking through our window cut outs – oh how I love them!

G, checking out our house from the spot that will someday be steps up to our front door.

A look at the back of our house, taken at dusk from our backyard:

Yep. I can’t wait to live here.
More framing details still to come!

Isn’t seeing the progress so exciting?? Wait till they put up the drywall! Thanks for sharing this exciting adventure with all of us. Lots more to come!
Our drywall is up and it looks SO GOOD! Oh my gosh, I can’t wait to share!! Working on pics and editing and blog posts tonight to catch up. It’s crazy how fast all of this is going!! Thank you so much for following along, Pam – it’s so exciting to share this with you all!
I’ve been a reader for awhile and was so excited to see you start new construction – my husband and I started at nearly the same time and your process /posts coincide with where we are too (down to very similar features in the two houses!) so it’s fun to watch yours go up! One of my favorite parts was also seeing what the views would be out of our window frames
enjoy the process!
Aww, thank you so much Kelly! Isn’t it all such a trip?! My goodness, I seriously never expected all this! I’m such a rookie, but diving in head first (or, more accurately, face first) trying to figure all this out. It’s thrilling and exciting and terrifying and mind-crippling all in one! Thank you so much for following along on this wild ride, and I wish you and your husband all the best on YOUR exciting and terrifying wild ride! 😀
