You guys – I have a poncho problem.
The first issue being that ever since I received this cable knit poncho in my latest Stitch Fix I’ve been walking around saying, “Nacho poncho!”
Which then reminds me of a quote from the movie Saving Silverman that my sister Brittny and I have been giggling over and (probably mis-)quoting for the past decade where Jack Black and the other guy are eating a plate of nachos and Jack Black grabs one chip and half the plate of nachos sticks to it. He goes to shove the entire load into his mouth and the other guy is all, “Dude! What are you doing?” and Jack Black is all [shrug], “If you grab a nacho and all the others stick to it that’s just one nacho.”
My sister and I use that line any time we need to justify shoveling our faces with food.
(Which is a lot.)
(Which could actually make this poncho really come in handy. Hmmm…)
Okay, so here’s my second – and more pressing – poncho problem. I need to decide if I’m going to keep it!
I received this in my latest Stitch Fix fix and I have 3 days to decide if it’s a keeper…or if it needs to be somebody else’s poncho problem.
(Nacho poncho!)
(Although it could be if I return it.)
(Or if you sign up for Stitch Fix.)
Okay, back to me. I’m realizing there are some plusses to owning a poncho. Such as…
It’s fun to twirl:
You can look like a cable-knit Bat Girl while you’re kicking acorns:
PLUS I had a big lunch and need to pee in the picture below and you can’t even tell:
So what are the cons (other than my “nacho poncho” situation)? Glad you asked. For starters, there are no arm holes. What do I do with my arms?! They just hang there. All…arm-y and stuff. Second, I live in Wisconsin – which is awesome, and clearly the reason cable-knit was created – but…we might also be the reason full length puffy parkas were created. I’m not sure I can fit my Bat Girl, nacho-eating, cable-knit cape into my full-length puffy parka once winter hits.
And the last thing? G insists if I keep the poncho I have to wear it with my Crocs. And socks.
So what’s a nacho-loving girl to do??
Here are some outfit details to buy you some time while you decide:
Outfit Details
Poncho: Brixon Ivy via Stitch Fix ($78)
Burgundy “Anita” Skinny Jeans: Liverpool, exclusively designed for Stitch Fix ($78)
Boots: Nine West [Related: “I Don’t Have a Baby Yet” Boots]
Okay, time’s up! What do you think? Should I keep the poncho (and torture G)? Or should I return it and let it be someone else’s poncho problem? Please vote in the comments below!

Keep or Return – WDYT?
New to Stitch Fix? I’d love for you to use my referral link to sign up! Singing up is free and you are not charged until you are ready to schedule your first “fix.” But don’t wait too long – your new clothes are going to look great on you! (Need more info? Check out my full Stitch Fix Review.)
I’ve been missing your style posts! Overall I’m not a huge poncho fan, but this one looks pretty great. BUT, if you’re having to talk yourself into keeping it, I’d say it might be one to return. Lately I’m finding the more I need someone to reassure me about a purchase (which is happening lots lately!), it’s not right for some reason. Unless you do love it and you’re just worried that G will make you wear it with the Crocs- in that case, keep it and just say no to Crocs and socks!
Thanks Alison! I photographed every item from this month’s Stitch Fix so there are more style posts coming! That’s such a great point about “if you’re having to talk yourself into keeping it…” So true!
I was yanked out of my poncho addiction about 10 years ago when my friends politely informed me that I looked silly. That being said, this one doesn’t look silly. I totally dig the cableknit- it gives it a more pulled together quality. I’m actually surprised as to how modern it looks. If you’ll wear it, keep it! It looks adorable!!
Thanks so much for your feedback, Karen! I like the cable knit detail, too. I think it gives it a little something extra. Maybe this will be the poncho to get you’re addiction going again! (For the record, I’m sure you looked fabulous.)
This one is cute on you (I think you could wear a bag though and look adorable!), but I am personally a fan of ponchos with arm holes. I’d say you could find better out there…. TJ maxx, marshalls has a ton of cute ones for much less $.
Thank you so much for your feedback, Jill! And your sweet compliment! You’re right – ponchos are so popular right now, so finding one I like better (and for less) won’t be hard.
I’m going to say no – I love the overall look – long, chunky, turtleneck sweater – but the poncho is just awkward logistically. You are the queen of efficiency and something that can only be worn as a jacket…but not really? Not for you! And certainly not for $80!
LOOVE the pants! So *you*
Excellent points, Allison! I know the jacket/no jacket thing would end up driving me crazy. It’s kind of one of those novelty pieces, but doesn’t work out so hot in “real life.” Thanks for bringing me back to reality! And thanks for the compliment on the pants! I adore them. They totally feel like pajamas.
My mama always says, “if you don’t want to take it home and wear it tomorrow, you don’t need it”. So if you’re not already planning how to wear it, send it back.
Excellent point, Roselyn! Please thank your mom from me for her great advice, and thank YOU for sharing it!
So what did you decide to do? I find myself googling tonite to see if someone has some slick fix for adding arm slits to ponchos – not me, mind you, but someone who knows how to cut yarns and not unravel everything! I JUST received a beautiful poncho TODAY – as pretty as yours. I am practically a Wisconsinite – living in way north Illinois – so I know of what you speak!
The dilemma is that I,too like, this ponch – but am seriously missing armholes! I too paid a bit for this lovely cape and I too must make up my mind to keep or return!
I may check with a few talented seamstresses to see if arm slits can be “installed.”
Hi Kathy! It was beautiful, but I decided to return it. That’s a great idea trying to find someone who can add arm holes to your poncho – love that plan! If you cannot track down a seamstress who can do it, maybe try calling a specialty shop in your area that sells yarn – I bet they’ll have someone on staff who could do it for you. Good luck with your poncho – and with staying warm this winter, my fellow Midwesterner!
